Was just at Fry's and bought a Western Digital Ultra DMA/100 80GB drive for $280 with an $80 rebate. Oddly, when I went to the checkout, it rang up as a 60GB drive (which is already $199 so I guess I don't need to send the rebate in).

8.9ms seek (seems high)
2MB buffer
3 yr warranty

full retail box

Nice.

I would RATHER have Maxtor as a storage drive, but that is personal preference. I am sure that baby will serve ya well ;)

This was at the Fry's in Sunnyvale (sorry, should have specified before). I'll send the rebate in and see what happens. I mean if their highly-trained security guy at the exit didn't catch the error, their rebate people probably won't either.

Oh, they also had Asheron's Call free after rebate, but I think several other stores have that too.

I wish I had a Fry's by me...

I have heard very good things about Western Digital Drives. They are made with the best integrated electronics using Cirrus Logic chips.

The rebate is through one of the usual rebate houses, but it does specifically say "when you buy a Western Digital 80GB retail packaged hard drive from Fry's Electronics."
