802.11g router, bandwidth question

I know 802.11g routers are suppose to give you a transfer rate of 54Mb/s but is that for every wireless connection or is that total, split amongst all the connections?

Afaik it's 54mb/s for every wireless connection to a point. After that point it gets divided, but I don't know what point that is.

Yes.

Also, actual thruput of 802.11g on the local level is around 20~30Mbps. 802.11g can handle only three channels at once, so in a busy environment you can expect some delays.

Even 20-30 is pushing it; it's closer to 20Mb/sec in "pure" mode, and 10Mb/sec in "mixed" mode(as a comparison, pure B is only 5Mb/sec effectively).
