802.11g mini-pci card for laptop.....recommendations?

Cisco is never cheap, but they are very robust. Buy it and you won't really reget it. If you need something cheaper try an Intel Pro Wireless adapter.

yeah, the Cisco one looks nice, but consdering my laptop is probably worth about $300-400, spending the $104 is a tad steep

so, the Intel Pro is a good one?

I have an Atheros mini pci card in my Thinkpad X22. Reception isn't amazing since my laptop didn't have wireless antennas wired into the lcd cover, so I have to get antennas myself. I can roam about 30 feet away from wireless router and still be connected, so I'm not too disappointed. It cost me about $40 total for the Atheros (802.11a/b/g WPA/WEP/etc) and antennas.

For $30 the Intel pro is a good value. Alternatively you could use a more common PCMCIA wireless adapter. I have seen CISCO versions sell for $40 in A,B, & G, flavor. With a PCMCIA adapter you can take it with you and install it on a differant PC in a matter of moments. PCMCIA also grants you a higher level of scuruty if your laptop does not come with a on off WiFi switch, unplug the PC card and no one can gain access to your computer.

Personal experiences will vary. Some Broadcom models are better than others and the same can be said for Atheros.

Haven't used but a few Atheros models, but so far everyone of them have given me 0 problems, my intel wireless card has given me no problems either... however every single broadcom based card has given me tons of trouble.... what models are actually work well?

I do not know the models off hand, but I have had few problems with them.
