That's what i was wondering....

That's probably why it was so cheap ;)

In any case, I jumped on this deal too. I can't argue with $13 shipped.

Orinoco Gold or Silver 802.11b cards are (or at the least were) PCMCIA type II. I've personally verified them working in a non-Cardbus system (Libretto L70)

EDIT: For posterity's sake, the SMC 2602w v.3 uses the same chipset as this card. I'm going to try and modify the INF file so it will install for this card, since TecNew appears flaky at best.

tecnew drivesr are newer then the SMC version 3 ones.

yes it does use the new AMD low power cihpset which is very awesome

BUT!

DO NOT BUY if you are running win98, I think there is a 20% success rate with that OS. I was one of those in the 80% but it works well with other OS's

as of 3/28/04 the win98 drivers are no go.

Got my card on Saturday and after some casual testing am pretty happy with the results. Windows XP detected the card and installed the drivers for me which was nice. It's no Orinoco Gold, but its def worth the $13 I paid.

XP > 98 ...get over it :D

If it works with XP/200, there is no reason to knock a product...

oh, unless it doesn;t work under linux...:p

...then you have my permission to start a sh!tstorm ;)

I was referring to driver revisions, not WinXP vs. Win98. Nice try though.

Yeah, if you are referring to drivers, then I agree with you 100%

I went with standard shipping for 4 bucks, but just for kicks, check out what some of the fedex shipping rates are - i got quoted $111.00 for fedex priority overnight from california to new york.

Gonna go for it myself. Have an old laptop for web surfing and it will be nice to use it from bed.

Crazy overnight shipping charges to NY though. :)
