Can you have an 800FSB CPU (P4 3.2GHz) and PC2700 together in the same motherboard?

Will the CPU still run at it's proper speed and the memory at it's top speed which would be DDR333?

The motherboard in question is an ABIT IC7-Max3.

Some of you may have seen my thread on trying to put 4GB of RAM in a motherboard. I will reply to that thread separately.

I'm just asking about the above question here.

many thanks

It is not possible to run 333mhz on an 800fsb CPU on my motherboard, the Asus P4P8X I865 motherboard.

maybe? ratios? I don't see why u couldn't but I don't have a P4 anyways but I would think you could with like 4:3 ratio or something. cpu 200 : ram 166?

Check the manual to see if it supports a 5:4 ratio for CPU, memory -- many P4 motherboards allow this.

yeah just go into the BIOS and check out the supports ratios under the 800mhz n/b strap. i have an Abit IS7 which supports it. in fact i'm using it right now b/c i don't yet have the money to upgrade to better memory. if you aren't OCing the CPU yet, then your 800mhz fsb is really running on a 200mhz system clock. w/ a 5:4 divider, your memory clock will be at 160mhz, which turns out to be 320mhz DDR, which is just under spec for your DDR333 memory. there might even be a 3:2 divider in the BIOS as well, which means you can raise the fsb above 200mhz without running the memory over spec.

Ran fine on my Dell 400sc. I used a 3.2P4c along with PC2700 Mushkin Basic @333 dual channel no problems.

It's very possible as a matter of FACT I run a Asus P4P800 at FSB of 250mhz with the ram at 166mhz using the 3:2 devider.
