So I have a $500 visa check card here and a $300 giftcard that can be used at bestbuy, cc or staples.

I want to by myself a new lcd and would like to find a good deal on one at BB,CC or staples so i can use up the $300 first then $200 from the cash card.

Can you reccommend any monitors or lcds

I'd save some more and drop in on the 24" Dell :).

I have one next to my 23" Sony LCD and it looks great :). Overall backlight NOT as 100% good as the Sony but dam it cost A LOT more 3yrs ago...3x as much in fact as the 24" Dell.

Try and sell the gift cards for as much as you can and get the Dell. It is worth saving that bit extra for imo.

widescreen regardless. If you can't save more, go with a 16 x 10 Samsung, or another one with 6ms gray to gray.

Don't get a TV/Monitor if you like higher resolutions than 1360X768 which is the highest I've seen in TVs

If you like gaming or running you pc at 1600 or above, then get a monitor and buy a TV tuner for the PC instead!

there are tvs with 1080p (1920 x 1080) but don't expect to see that in the 800 price range anytime soon

also ... we have a plasma and hooked up our computer to it ... it was only 1280 x 1024 but it looked more than ok

I used to own a 2405fpw (had to send it to my sis back in india). If u get used to the 1920 X 1080 resolution anything lower else simply sux.

On another note I have not seen this first hand have heard that an LCD TV makes an ok monitor. But if u want a monitor for ur comp which can work as a TV too dont think twice and get a proper LCD monitor and a nice ole TV Tuner Card.

How I miss my 2405 :(

Dell 24"
and you'll need more, but what the heck, you're young and can afford it. If you're patient, you can get one for less on eBay. Bidding individually can get them under $700.
If you have to use your giftcard, then you'll miss some great deals.

The just-released NEC MultiSync 20WMGX2. Uses a new LG.Philips LCD AS-IPS panel. Superior in response time (fast as fastest TN), viewing angles, contrast (automatically adjusts contrast per scene), and primary color accuracy (better than AG CRT) to anything else out there (beats 2405FPW in every category but size). All colors are under Delta E 1 (less than 1 pixel of color off), right on par with the Dell 3007WFP. This thing also has the contrast coating, and picture-in-picture with tons of inputs. There are user reviews on prad.de, widescreengamingforum.com and a professional review on hardware.fr, all of which were very favorable. Face-to-face comparisons on lesnumeriques.com. Called LCD20GX2 in some countries.

Yea. Thing that sucks is if i sell my giftcard, I have a premier paypal account and would get charged to recieve funds.

I just want something in the $450-$600 range that looks awesome and will keep me satisfied for a while.

I mean that gateway was on sale at staples for $540 a few weeks back not to mention a $50 off $250 coupon on top would make it under $500
