I think 80 proof liquor (40%) freezes around ~-20F (that would be about, not exactly) way colder than a (normal) freezer.

If I recall correctly 50% EtOH and water freezes right around -40 F/C. The freezing temp of your liquor is going to depend on the H20 and EtOH ratio.

I don't like any warm beverages. Not water, not coffee, not even hot cocoa. I like all my drinks to be really cold.

Vodka, rum or anything I plan to mix with a cold beverage or enjoy on ice goes in the freezer. Whiskey, brandy, tequila and similar go above in the cupboard above the stove, where the evenings meal prep often warms them a bit. That makes them perfect for sipping straight after dinner.

So slap your cousin and take that Laphroaig out of the freezer. Then make him a Shirley Temple and tell him to go drink it quietly at the kiddie table.
