Think of it this way, your eyes can scan an entire line of text with nearly perfect clarity in a fraction of a second. The reason most people read slowly is because they're taught in grade school to read out loud to themselves and sound out everything. Stop sounding out words in you head. You don't need to know how to pronounce them. Just read the words themselves(if that makes any sense). It's how they teach kids in Korean private schools nowadays and those kids are mad fast(I read about one kid in second grade who can read 10 full legal sized pages of text in 22 seconds. I thought to myself, damn! but 80 pages is nothing. Wait till you have to read up for a research paper in college for 20 sources, 60 pages typed.

Reading 80 pages of a textbook is not like reading 80 pages of a book you picked and enjoy. If I am interested in a subject or book, I could read 80 pages in a few hours, but if it's a really boring textbook from a subject I'm not interested in, it could take me a few hours to read 10 pages. It's just hard to concentrate when the subject does not interest you in the least. When I really enjoy a book though, I might read 80 pages so quickly I don't even realize it.

GG - my suggestions for the class:

- Do ALL the work. Don't skip anything even if it seems useless/irrelevant.

- Get extra help whenever you can. This class can burn you easily if you don't know what you're doing. That's what the TAs are here for.

Yeah, I'm planning on going to all the sessions, and I will definitely go to the discussion in order to get some more insight on the material... Just read 11 pages - and the information provided seems pretty straight forward and interesting..

Got to ask a question though, is he GAY in anyway? Cuz I see that he wears this gay/pimp type necklace, and his nipples were piercing through his silk shirt... he doesn't sound gay, nor did he act gay... but man, he definiltey looked the part... I need to know this.. so that maybe,uh, I can move a few rows back (currently in the front row) :)

"For fun" I just read 100 pages of The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien in 1 to 2 hours. I was reading every sentence (reading slowly).

Develope a good method of skim reading. When I had to read 1/2 of Great Expectations in about an hour I would skim the first page and a half of each two pages and then skip the forth quarter. I think I got a B on the test.

If worse comes to worse check out something that rhymes with "Bark goats" !

Simple, take that page-rubber course for 11.9 hours, and then in 6 minutes read all 80 pages hehe.

Hehe, if that wasn't so true, I'd accuse you of implying that I have no life! Hehe, but yep - I think I'm gonna get this done... almost there :) And guess what, I'm finding the time to incorporate Anandtech into my studies - how awesome is that?! :D
