80 Minute CDROM

its because the larger CD-roms arn't part of the standard. Most new CD players/roms will read them,but the older ones don;t know how to read the extra space
 
If it is a DVD drive, then it should definitely be able to read 80-minute CD's. However, keep in mind that the early DVD drives used single blue lasers to read from CDs, which were designed to be read by red lasers (larger wavelength). This causes lower reflectivities and higher error rates...

I would try a different 80-minute CD-R. If your drive reads CD-R discs at all, then it should be able to read the longer ones... It may just be a bad CDR.

I have an ancient faulty Pioneer CDROM and it reads all the CDs I burn with my HP Burner at 8x on 80 minute CDs. Never had problems reading any CDs.

Maybe you burnt a CD-RW and didn't close it?
