$80 MAXTOR 60gb 7200 @OD AR$20 + Coupon

Guess I shouldn't be surprised, but I paid that price for a 40GB 5400 Maxtor last September at CUSA and that was a pretty good price at that time.

I expect computer pricing to drop, but the drop in HD pricing over the last year or so has been phenomenal. Probably about time for some new technology to come out and make all HDs obsolete... 😉

As you say, not a bad deal if someone needs a 60GB drive.

can someone help with the coupon code? im looking for a hd badly as my .jpg, .mp3 collection is killing me. thanks in advance.

be ready to wait a long, long time for that rebate. I bought the 40 GB maxtor 5400 rpm back in december, and I am still waiting for my money. Express Group is terrible.

this is not the ata133 model. so i don't thinks this is the d740x model....

though, if this rebate were at staples, i'd jump on this....

Thanks - got in on this as an upgrade for the 30gb drive in my terciary system!

BTW, various $20 off $75 coupons can be found over at fat wallet...

Maxtor is famous for putting a hard drive in their boxes that are slight upgrades. I guess they want to use all their boxes. You never know...

Yes this might be the 740x model as it just depends on how old the stock is at the Store near you.

And if you get a 740x then this is really hot. I have the 40gig 740x and it is really fast and quiet, and I am not as worried about my data as I would be with a IBM.

Caminetto, the link you point to may be not right. I check the link I used it IS still alive, valid through 5/1/2002.

Checked at B&M. I found it's a ATA133 model, but no Diamond sign, hints QUANTUM HD. Again. it's up to the B&M.

Good luck.

tigerbait (and anyone else missing their rebates):
I just got my 40GB rebate two weeks ago from the Dec. deal. I also did the 20GB-7200 deal in Dec. and had to call for that rebate after the 40GB rebate finally showed up. Turns out the fulfillment center was denying the rebate based on "incorrect" UPC label. When I sent it in I knew this might be a problem, because there was the box UPC and a sticker UPC that was on the plastic wrap. I think Maxtor was using an old box or something. Anyways, a five minute call to the fulfillment center where I read off the "UPC" number from my copy of the paperwork got me my rebate last week. You might want to check if you haven't yet.

Beaver: I just looked at the maxtor site and the formerly-Quantum drives, the Fireball Plus AS series, are not listed being ATA133 capable, only ATA100. The only (pertinent) drives listed as ATA133 are the D740X series. Also, while the older DiamondMax drives had the yellow diamond next to their name, the D740X (though a "DiamondMax/Plus" drive) did not display the yellow diamond.

My guess is that the boxes labelled ATA133 are indeed the D740X drives. If anyone has received their drives, perhaps they can provide the model number. I'm guessing we won't be so lucky as to have them be the fluid bearing dirves (6L060L3), but rather the standard bearing (6L060J3).

Edit:
Anyone have experience returning online OD purchases to the B&M store? I'll probably chance the purchase, hoping for an ATA133. Is it a relatively easy return assuming I end up with an ATA100? Thanks.

UATA/133? give me a break people... there is no way in hell you're gonna get that kinda speed out of your system. UATA/100 is even overkill... i want someone to show me that they really get 100MB/sec or even 133MB/sec out of your drive. You're lucky if youre saturating a UATA/66 connection. UATA/133 is just a selling point... its new, so it must be good, right?? Come on people, thought I was in the company of fellow hardware Gurus here @ anandtech... guess not.

Anyway, i've been looking for another drive for my server.. this might be the one.... gonna have to check this one out.. Thanks!

anyone got a "item is back-ordered for future delivery"? i'm guessing that if they ship after the date that the rebate expires, then the rebate is no good anymore 🙁
