CompUSA has their store brand (repackaged Maxtor) 80 GB hard drives with 8MB cache for $70 aftr $60 rebate. I think this is a relatively hot deal. Sorry in advance if this is a repost.

After looking back through Sunday when this deal started, I didn't see any other notices about this so I don't think it's a repost. After reviewing the other postings, less than $1 per GB for a 7200 RPM drive with an 8MB buffer is a pretty hot deal from what I've seen.

Yeah but you can get the Western Digital 80 GB with 8MB cache for the same price from CC. Order online and download the rebate forms.

I thought he meant that he got Staples to pricematch CircuitCity; but I can't find the drive on Staples' site...

goll

Tuan, ur full of BS... Your post belongs in the brag and moan section of ebay. Dont post deals that no1 else can get. You got lucky that you received a staples rep that didnt know jack squat about HD's. Take your bragging some place else

"Dont post deals that no1 else can get."
hahaha! he didn't! he just posted what he got... maybe a better question would be what was the name of the kid that hooked him up imo 🙂

little jealousy here? he shoulda just put a YMMV on his post

compusa deal is good, and I like Maxtor drives, but IMO, the circuit city WD deal is better due to three words: Three Year Warranty. (Granted, you may need it with a WD drive, but at least it is there.) Doesn't the maxtor from Compusa only offer a 1 year warranty? I would hate to buy one of the new maxtors and enjoy the 8 mb cache, only to find out 13 months later that it is planned obsolescence after 12 months.

dunno what you are talking about, but WD drives dont fail that often, or with any more regularity than anything else. i hate when people have a bias against a hard drive company. all of them are going to make faulty drives, some people will get lucky and some wont. its that simple.

i think tuan121 meant that the pricematch was with staples to the original compusa deal. it does say on the compusa site that the drive is a maxtor diamondmax drive. in this case, the price is even better with the pricematch...

ERr once again I'll share this here. Take the CC ad to CompUSA. Tell them you want them to PM the WD. They won't be able to give you rebates so they'll give you a $70 giftcard. I hate waiting 3 months for rebates to MAYBE come so I went the gift card route instead.

Can you clam down a bit? I think that's not a deal no one else can get, just that not everyone can get.

One thing good about Staples is that, if you don't get something you want...just hang up and call again.

hehe. I'm going to run over and pat my wifes little 4 year old 8 gig drive and tell it I still love it.. "I don't want it to get it's feelings hurt"

seriously.. I've had as good of luck with maxtor or wd.. really been great drives. I will never however buy another I"break"M

I've rma'd 6 ibm's.. I've rma'd 3personal maxtors.. and 2 of those were within 2 months of warranty expiration.
I've only rma'd one wd to date.

I agree with buying drive and 3 year warranty. at 34 months it's certainly nice.

maxtor has consistently replaced my rma'd drives with larger capacities and you just can't beat that.

great deal with either drive I'm needed something bigger though. I've got 2 40's and a 60 and a 30.. time to sell and consolidate hehe.
Thanks for the post.

dunno what you are talking about, but WD drives dont fail that often, or with any more regularity than anything else

Well what I am talking about is the 3 Western Digital drives I have had fail on me personally. The last one was a 13.6 gig Caviar that I had for less than a year before it started the dreaded "WD Click of Death". I have only had 1 maxtor fail on me (and I blame the HP sticker that it had on it, that's what I get for buying oem from outpost.com. Probably was a factory pull). But hey, I hope Western Digital has it back together, because I believe in 3 year warranties on hard drives. And I want my new 80 gig SE to work as long as possible. But to be honest, if Maxtor had retained their 3 year warranty, I would not have tried the WD. To be fair, both Maxtor and WD have very good RMA support. And maxtor replaced my 30 gig 7200 rpm drive with a newer D740x 40 gig, so I was still a happy maxtor customer. At least until they announced their new 12 month warranty. I could eventually become a WD customer if they hold up, and continue to offer the 3 year warranty.
