<< me "do you know what will be on the truck?"
bb mangr "nope, i dont know until a few hours before it gets here."

well how the "h" "e" double toothpicks does that work i wonder?
>>

Haha, I see they must be still using their antiquated business process. It never made sense to me either, but the way it works is that they pack the trucks at a warehouse and the invoice doesn't get to the store until a little before the truck gets there. At the time of unpacking, they print out the invoice and make sure everything is on the truck.

Corporate reason stated to me was that it was for security purposes, no one knew what was on the truck. My mind boggled thought - Who the heck would care what was on the truck if they were hijacking it? No matter what, you know it'd be worth a lot.

Then again, not many companies make sense to begin with.

I still think that the best deal on this drive is this:

$199 at BB
- $75 refund from AMEX BLUE (with website selling retail drive at $124).
- $75 rebate from BB

Drive ends up being under $50 (plus tax on original $200)... so in my case about $60.

I just hate MIR... hope that WD is reliable for that... but this is too good a deal to pass up.

I just got 4 of these drives at BB!!! Raid-Baby-Raid :D

They did the pm to CC (after calling), however, the CSR would NOT do the 110% pm.
CSR: No, we don't do that. We NEVER do that.

But I have two good questions:
1) the rebate says "Offer is limited to one rebate check per eligible product purchased." So can I send in four different rebates for myself?
2) After coming to HD, can anyone help with the credit card bill? ;)

I just called the WD rebate center (888-292-0667) and the CSR said I would receive all 4 rebates, however,
Each rebate must be sent in a separate envelope

Actually there might be a way to get the drive for nearly ZERO dollars.

1) Buy the drive at $199 at Best Buy.
2) Immediately send in an AMEX BLUE pricematch to $124 with original receipt.
3) Go back to BB and make them PM CC to $149.
4) Send in your $75 rebate form.

Final price is
$199 - $75 - $75 - $50 =

[/b] $1 in your pocket [/b] ;)

Well not really, you still pay tax, but what a deal!

the BB in Manassas, VA had about a dozen drives today around noon
I took one up to the customer service desk with a print out of the CC shelf tag. The rep (Ann) called the CC next door and at first they said the drive was $199; I asked the rep to please ask the person to scan in the drive - she asked and I saw her smile.

"It's your lucky day, they said it's $149.98."

On top of that she gave me the extra 10% and explained that I wasn't supposed to get it but so many customers have been complaining about that lately that she automatically gives it just to avoid making customers angry. She rang it up and was surprised to see the rebate forms come out. "Oh my God! You're getting an extra $75 off? You're so incredibly lucky!"

I asked if she was allowed to buy one for herself with the price match and she said: "Oh God no! They'd never allow us to do that!"

Good luck people! :)

Simple, AMEX is more than happy to accept a faxed copy of the receipt.

I just sent in my claim for the drive, and now I will go to BB later today to see about getting them to knock another $50 off to PM with CC.

In the end, if I get the AMEX rebate (shouldn't be a problem), and the MIR (I have bad luck with them) I will get the drive for $10 (tax on the original $200).

Actually, come to think of it, I probably should not go back to BB and have them credit my card for the $50 before AMEX has a chance to process my claim... if Amex processes my claim and sees that I got a PM on the drive they might deny it.

I will wait a few weeks for my check from Amex to arrive and then PM BB with whatever lower price is available.

Um, I would strongly suggest against that!!! AmEx considers this as fraud because they only consider the actual price you pay for the drive. If you knowingly get a reduced price later on you are comiting fraud. If they suspect this there goes your card and maybe more. Like you were the first one to think of that

I actually had a rep call me back about a PM I did later on at BB when I was buying the 80GB drives back in November last year. They are watching :)

You Amex pm'ers should wait.. you have 60 days... and since both Circuit City and Best Buy are offering mail in rebates... that is usually followed with a lower price in the next couple months w/ no rebate. I got Best Buy to match CC's price, but I plan on making the deal a little sweeter with a Amex PM down the road.

after telling friend/family about the deal, I had to make a run for 6 more drives!
This time I asked more about the 110% and the CSR gave me an extra 10% off. So this was:
200 (orig)
-50 (CC match)
-15 (10% off)
-75 (rebate)
------------
60 /me doing the making-the-money dance!

However, the manager said the 10% off was an error but let me have it anyway <thanks>
He said "Buy the item at regular price then go to service desk and they will pm + 10%" Kinf of goofy IMHO.

Thanks for a great deal!

As long as it drops $10 or more, AMEX will pricematch it multiple times from what I understand.

For those who want to Amex PM, I think the dell drive is OEM. Part # WD800BB while BB has WD800BBRTL. I guess "RTL" at the end is for retail. May or may not work...

I did the pricematch today, and I didn't get the regular BB receipt. They used a special form for pricematching where it's almost as large as a regular sheet of paper. I asked about the rebate, they said I wouldn't be eligible. They didn't give me any rebate form for the drive. I thought "hah right, I'll just print it off the internet and you'll be none the wiser." Anyway, I called up the rebate center and asked if I was still eligible for the rebate. The lady on the phone said that a pricematched product is not eligible for a rebate. Now, before I return this drive and get my 150 bucks back, can anyone confirm whether or not a PM'd product is eligble?

Don't buy it with a price match. Instead, buy it at full price, so that you will get a rebate form and a "rebate receipt" printed from the register, as well as the regular receipt.

Now that you have bought it, and have all the proper paperwork, go back and get the pricematch + 10% of the difference. They will have you fill out a price match form and they will mark your receipt, but you will still have your "rebate receipt" and your rebate form, which are all you need (along with the UPC+Label) to get the $75 rebate.

Ahh, I see now. Oh well, I plan to return it anyway since I totally screwed that up :)
I realize that I don't need an 80GB harddrive....at least, that's what I'll tell myself to calm me down about screwing up this great deal.

just return it, buy it again at full price( you'll get the rebate form ) then go straight to customer service and get your 110% price match...you are still good, don't give up

Just got in on this today. I got the PM (149.99) before I bought. I got the big yellow receipt, a small rebate receipt and a rebate form for my name etc. It seems like it will work. The rebate reciept has the original 199.99 price and the 149.99 pm. I think I'm going to call in to make sure this is kosher.

Does anyone know if they track the receipts? i.e. could someone who didn't get a pm just buy one hd from CC for 149.99 and one from BB for 199.99, copy the BB receipt, return the hd to BB, use the UPC from the hd from CC and send it in for the rebate. I didn't try this b/c I didn't know whether the BB rebate center could tell if I'd returned the hd before sending in the rebate. Damn I'm Cheap.
