8" Subs.....

Due to the size of my car I am limited to 2 8" subs. I plan on putting them behind the seats under the retractable top like was done here. I don't want to use up any of my tiny trunk. What would be a good pair of subs to get for this configuration? I really don?t want to spend anymore than $200 since I?m going to have to get a new amp too. Also I?ve been looking at new head units since my current one doesn?t read mp3s. What is the difference between Pioneer and Pioneer Premier? Their head units look identical except for the name badge. Thanks.

I'd look into some JL 8IB4 subs. Or 6W0, smaller then 8's so you may not get much thump out of them but they would help the low end none the less.
 
This is the hardest part of a proper car audio install.

This can be a BITCH. I spent a DAY. As in about 10 hours pulling wire thru the doors of my 98 Accord. They have MOLeX plugs that go into the doors. YOu actually have to drill a hole in the molex plug w/o cuting any wires. Easier said than done.

With airspace requirements that small, 8-inch subs are good...they will have to be in a sealed box. Know what though? I think you'd be happier with a single 10". Here's why:

Single 10-inch sub will hit just as hard as two 8's AND will take up less space.

Also, you can buy a four-channel amp. Run the "A" amp left/right for the fronts and bridge the "B" amp to the single sub. 🙂
 
I think the 8IB4 is made for free air...Just mount right to the rear deck or some such.
And Glen will love me for recommending free air, although normally I wouldnt.... 😀

I'm going to spend a whole day next week installing my new headunit, component speakers (front), regualr speakers (back), 10" subwoofer, and two amps powering the components and the sub :frown: It's going to suck. Not to mention it'll be my first time installing amps :frown:

I actually already have a 10" sub. The thing is I don't know where else it would fit other than the trunk and I can't really afford to have no trunk space.
 
I have a 90 bronco and heres what i did

front--tweets in a pillar(tryed pods-didn t work)
6.5- hi-fonics mid-ranges in upper door(stock location)
6.5- alpine-mid woofs in lower bottom of door

this alone gives a great front sound stage

for the real heavy stuff--2-10" adires molded into the back quarters

honestly i hardly ever crank up the backs


more than anything--PLACEMENT IS THE KEY--

I'll probably end up getting one of those in a couple weeks. I don't really have much choice since there's not room for crap in my 98 F150. The dude at the stereo shop said the one for my truck was designed for W0's though 🙁 Two 8" W0's... awesome. Oh well, still ought to be plenty for my truck.

The smaller the room you are in, the MORE gain you get.
Typically the inside of a truck cabin is pretty small.
You will be surprized how good 2 8"'s can sound.
 
I have a pair of free-air 8" subs (Pioneer..175w rms & 350w peak, IIRC) that I'm not using..s/h might be a little high, though.. but if you want to buy them, lmk 😛
 
I'd go w/ the JL 8's, or if not, i believe JL has 6 1/2 subs now, my brother was talkin about them the other day, small, but should get good bass response as long as you have 2++ of them...

Damn I wish I woulda saw this before I tried to order one.... maybe I can still cancel the order though.
