The story said "six victims were Asian." It didn't just say "massage parlors."

Dipshit.

It's also not inherently racist to stereotype. I'll agree that stereotypes make racism much easier. None of this really makes a difference because outtahismind is just an idiot with little self awareness, if any, and words are hard.

Yay, Jackasslass is here to defend the poor persecuted white man!

You're right, why should we have done anything about Civil Rights, we'd already ended slavery a century before!
Guy's got 8 Life Terms ahead of him. At age 21, that's gonna be a loooonnnngggg time. What point is there to a sentencing enhancement?

I'm going to place my Black/Hispanic self in a White man's body and think Do I believe this animals explanation for this massacre? Thinking real hard. I mean really hard. My thoughts - there's is not a snow storms chance in hell that I believe him. He is 21 and has a fetish for massage/sex parlors? Give me a break. Only an idiot would believe that and that they were not targeted because of anti Asian sentiment fueled by Donald Trump calling the virus the Chinese virus, Kung Flu and the Wuhan virus. And this being repeated by his supporters launching countless attacks against Asians. He was interviewed by law enforcement and came up with that answer? Did the cops give him White glove treatment like they did with past White mass murderers? Did they get him a Coke, put a straw in it and serve it to him while conveniently sitting down and handcuffed? How will they top this apprehension compared to the other White domestic terrorists? Thinking real hard That I am...

So ... it looks like if you’re a religiously nutty white guy with suppressed pervy sexual urges you have one of two choices, either go fully nutball batshit like this guy or become the leader of a mega-church.

Isn't gender part of hate crimes too?

😕 It’s absolutely a hate crime; it’s absolutely terrorism. It's still less clear on whether it’s "specifically" racially motivated terrorism. I'm not suggesting that if it were targeting “only” women or “only” sex workers, that might mean it wasn’t a hate crime against Asians.

If the dead were murdered at a sex business, it was a racially-themed sex business of a sort that in the US tends to cater to men (mostly white)having racial sexual fantasies. When the women were targeted, they were likely targeted because of their intersection of race, sex, and occupation. It’s tricky to isolate one of these factors. The general terrorism affects multiple communities.

Multiple sources - friends and family - have verified that he was a sex addict, was in rehab for it, had been kicked out of his parent's house because of it, was very religious, and was "tortured" over it.

I don't know where you people get the idea that "white mass murderers" are given "white glove treatment" or that anyone is being given a pass for serious crimes just because they're white.

Maybe race was also a motive for this guy. I don't really know. But the motive suggested so far is not actually that implausible. He was lashing out against women who work in massage parlors for "tempting" him because he refused to blame himself for his own problem.

Maybe religion should stop shaming people into thinking something as natural as sex is bad.

Agreed. Assuming that what is so far known about the motive is accurate, the conclusion that this would not have happened but for religion is difficult to avoid. Especially given that his undoubtedly religious parents kicked him out of their house, who knows for what, but probably they caught him masturbating to porn or something like that.

"Pizza, guns, drums, music, family, and God. This pretty much sums up my life. It's a pretty good life."

He said Long was a "deeply religious person -- he would often go on tangents about his interpretation of the Bible,"

I personally try to avoid deeply religious people who are into pizza. Never seems to work out well.

At first, I was willing to give this guy a pass over a stupid and recklessly casual remark, but the more I read, the more I see him as a part of the growing problem.

And apparently his boss too.

Well, it seems the sheriff's department that did not feel this particular crime was racially motivated is rotten with racism to its core.

source: bunch of news stories exploding today first examining the Sheriff departments spokesman, and then the sheriff himself ...

Maybe he's referring to the first reply in the thread:
Wait a second. Don't we have another thread where the OP asserted black people have racial animus against Asians and also said the OVERWHELMING number of attacks on Asians were done by black people. The 8 people killed in Atl were Asian females. I give you this black guy...

Maybe he's referring to the first reply in the thread:

Well your comment makes no goddam sense.....shitmind's claim was that woolfe, and others, were reading massage parlor and coming up with Asian women on their own....and no one did because that fact, that the majority of victims were Asian women, was in the damned article linked in the OP.

Of course, that nugget of info would have been obvious to both shitmind and you if either of you had bothered to read the goddam article before spouting shit. But, of course, it's just so much easier to post a stupid comment instead of actually spending a minute reading beforehand....you know, so you don't end up looking as stupid as shitmind.....but that moment's gone for you...sadly.

Tone it down.

The very first response bizarrely asserted that every one of the 8 victims was Asian. Didn't just say "the majority." I thought it was worth pointing out and took the opportunity by relating it to their little exchange about assuming they were all Asian, since their posts were more recent and strangely relevant.

I made exactly one post in this thread with absolutely nothing in it to justify your embarrassing level of vitriol. What "shit" did I spout?

As investigators on Thursday pieced together whether and how racism and sexism might have motivated Tuesday’s attacks, people who knew Mr. Long offered new details about a dangerous collision of sexual loathing and what a former roommate described as “religious mania” that marked his life in the years before the shooting spree.
From NYTimes article today.

"Prisons are built with stones of law, brothels with bricks of religion." - William Blake

I'm reading a great book apropos this:

god is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything, by Christopher Hitchens

Yeah, this does not surprise me. This motive has always seemed plausible to me.

Years ago, I had a good friend who was obsessed with sex and porn. One time he bought a VCR and about 5 porno tapes, jerked off like 10 times over a weekend, then threw the VCR and tapes he spent hundreds of dollars on into a dumpster, because he said it made him feel "dirty." He had binged, then purged/cleansed himself. Rather like a bulimic - the metaphor is apt. He repeated this sort of behavior many times.

He wasn't religious then, but became "born again" a couple years later, which in hindsight doesn't surprise me. Today he's the most fanatically religious person I know. The relationship between sex, religion and guilt/shame can produce very intense emotions and very extreme behaviors.

This act of killing was symbolically like my friend throwing out the tapes and VCR, except unfortunately he threw out people instead of things.

And on that same theme, the shooter's church, which is getting criticized, issued a lengthy statement condemning the killings. It does say the victims are not to blame, which is good, but then adds: "He alone is responsible for his evil actions and desires."

See, they just had to add the word "desires" there. Maybe if churches weren't teaching people that natural, biologically ingrained urges were evil, things like this would be less likely to happen.

Victims and ages:

Delaina Ashley Yaun, 33 (Customer)
Paul Michels, 54, ( doing some carpentry)

Staff:
  • Soon C . Park, 74
  • Hyun J. Grant (maiden name Kim), 51
  • Suncha Kim, 69
  • Yong A. Yue, 63
  • Daoyou Feng, 44
  • Xiaojie Tan, 49

These were the temptations he had to stop?? Given the ages I would be inclined to think this was more of a place to get actual massages.
