I never got infected right away from a clean Windows install. However, I'm behind a router. And, I haven?t had one virus or adware problem under Linux for the last 6 years.

Yeah, it's NOT a good idea to browse pr0n without some extra security.

I was browsing Anandtech. Without a Firewall it doesn't matter where you browse, just being connected is a gateway for Adware and other nefarious code. A Virus can't get in, but everything else can.

I think all the people saying they are running without any patches and never get infected do not have public IPs on their pc. You are being NATed by your DSL modem/router or you bought a 3rd party router. If you had an actual public IP you would be infected very quickly.

Well that sounds like a bunch of marketing BS, but it looks like linksys does have some SPI functionality beyond just NAT.

But I wouldn't trust marketing mumbo jumbo.

As long as it truly maintains connections states and blocks based on that and not just NAT then I would call it a SPI firewall.
