got mine in today...just has a manual, ac adapter, and the switch (what else would one want to come with it anyway). works as advertised so im definitely happy!!!

Practicing what I preach... I ordered one. Crap, I think that will make the SECOND spare 8 port GBe switch I'll have. 😱

I'm in for one of these, @ $14 it can't be beat. I say this even as I'm preparing to chunk my Trendnet 631 router. It just won't keep wireless alive - most likely a heat issue - maybe warranty service? Or why bother with cheap alternatives that will be less than the shipping. 🙂

I'd like 2, which NE is limiting you to, but the rebate is 1 per _name_ - it doesn't say per address or anything else. Does anyone have any idea if that means 1 ordered in my name and 1 in my wife's (same address) would be 2 rebates legitimately? That would be a whole lot easier to me than most gyrations needed to get 2 legit rebates...

In for one...

my old router is 10/100 and all my computers are giga so I need something to speed up transfers between them.

If I hook all my computers to this, do I use a patch or crossover cable to my router?

internet----modem----router----switch

is this correct?

That's what I would expect - almost all rebate forms say that. However, the terms and conditions on this one say:

No reproductions of UPC codes will be accepted. Cannot be combined with any other offers. Limit 1 rebate per name. Requests from groups or organizations will not be honored. Fraudulent submissions of multiple requests could result in federal prosecution under U.S. Fraud Statues (18 USC, Section 1341 and 1342).
and doesn't say anything about addresses...

Sounds right. These things should do auto crossover, so just try out a normal cable first.

Do they even make cross-over cables anymore?

Sure they do... I know I have to make one every once in a while. The main place I've used them in recent history has been in situations where there is a machine that's connected wirelessly to a network, but needs to either push or pull large numbers of files from a laptop. WiFi takes FOREVER if you're talking a good Gig or more. Making a crossover and placing it between the laptop's and desktop's ethernet ports (and making sure they have appropriate addresses) gets the files transfered at normal network speeds.

Haven't needed one on a switch for a long time though.

Joe

Great deal! I've been waiting but it's time to string up some CAT6 and use gigabit.

edit: All my laptops now support auto crossover so I haven't made a crossover cable in a while. Try your laptops next time before digging out the crossover.

Did anyone notice the power adapter is for Europe?

I'm not that worried about it. What are the odds they'll actually ship a euro power supply to us 🙂.
