Brands for less has a $20 off $100 promotion, and Computers4sure.com has the Hawking Technologies 8-port 10/100 SWITCH (not hub) for sale at $89.99!!

Make sure you go to Brands for less FIRST, and then click on the link describing "How to save $30", and then Just go to this link:

http://www.computers4sure.com/product.asp?ProductId=65360&

After you have ordered, go to the window that was opened when you clicked on the "Save $30" link, click on the $20 button, fill out the form, and after your rebate request is received, click on the "Free Shipping" link, and fill THAT information out.

The end result is an 8-port switch that should perform very well. I have a 5-port one (Hawking Technologies PN505ES), and I have had nothing but great performance out of it! I love it, but due to recent expansion in the number of computers, I needed something with more ports, and this one fits the bill perfectly!

Hi, rgwalt--

Yes, you COULD buy the Linksys DSL router with the 4-port switch, but I've heard about a lot of problems with them, and if you get the NetGear RT311 router AND this switch, you will have the same capabilities with more capacity for extra computers, for a total of about another $7.

Though the solution won't be integrated, I think it's a better all around deal to do it that way--just my humble opinion!

Actually, I think you are right. My dad is having trouble w/ his linksys. I don't need one yet as my appartment won't be able to wire for cable for a few months. So many good deals on switchs and routers, but I'm forcing myself to wait it out.

I've heard that there is a FlashROM update available for Linksys routers that fix some problems. Not sure thought if these are the same problems you guys have heard about....something having to do with cookies being blocked and such.

Hey, the Linksys may be a great little router/switch, I don't have first-hand experience with it. I *DO* have one of the RT311's, and I *DO* have one of the Hawking Technologies' PN505ES, and they work GREAT! I'm VERY happy with both of them.

The things I mentioned about what I had heard about the Linksys, came off of Tim Higgins' site; here is the link:

You could buy $10 worth of additional merchandise and qualify for the $30 rebate. Your total after rebate should be about the same but you'd have an additional $10 worth of stuff.

For the rebates, is the confirmation number the same as the order number?

Hi, pjs--

yes, the order number you received from Computers4sure would be the order confirmation number you use for the rebates.

Well, I ordered one of these 8 port switches and some cables, so the total is a little over 100 bux. I then applied for the $30 rebate and the free shipping and have received a confirmation in regards to my free shipping request but no confirmation for the $30 rebate request.

I'll see how things turn out.

Hi, athi--

Sorry, someone already asked me about it, and I don't want to sell it--I usually like to keep something around as a backup, and the 5-port that I have will do that nicely (I have a Linksys 100Mbit hub that I've BEEN keeping as a backup, so it looks like I can get rid of THAT now!)

I haven't used the Linksys router, but I have used the 4-port switch and a couple of their nics...and they all worked great for me...damn I love lan parties.

I'd have to agree with Matt Stone here. I have a Linksys hub running my lan and it's been perfect so far. But I guess the switch is another thing :)
