8 Gigs in a Macbook Pro?

I've had some issues with Dell workstation laptops and dual-link DVI support. So, I'm toying with the idea of getting a macbook pro (17") and pulling the 2 gigs it comes with and dropping in the 8 gigs out of my Dell M6300. I'm unsure if the macbook pro will even recognize all 8 gigs. (I'd be installing and running Vista 64 on the mac).

Has anyone tried installing 8 gigs of ram in a macbook pro?

I didn't even think you could buy 4GB DDR2-667 SODIMMs. Officially the MBP only supports 4GB per Apple's documentation.

Yeah, I know. I'm just curious if anyone has tried it just for fun. Anand likes to pull macs apart and do things to them, and I assume other adventurous people might do the same. Just pinging to see if anyone has...

If the dimms exist and the motherboard can support it, then Vista 64bit will recognize it.

Yes, but does the motherboard support it? I don't know who the manufacturer is, so I don't have any way (other than the apple site which doesn't exactly follow a full disclosure policy on hardware) to find out short of ordering one and sticking them in...
