I thought I read something somewhere that Intel might be bringing back soldered X SKU's but can't recall where I read it. Possibly from an insider posting on twitter.

Might be more likely for the LGA 3647 Xeons/Cascade Lake-X since the TDPs are going into the stratosphere.

Or they could spend the extra ten cents and solder them

You seem confused. It almost looks like you somehow figured that the concepts of "added value" and "Intel" should be two ideas that work together in the same sentence. I'm sure you meant something totally different from what you actually said. It's fine though.

It looks like Intel will finally start to solder chips. It's about time! Not sure if the 8-core will be soldered though:

Pretty confident that the solder comment was about Cascade Lake-X 3647 and not mainstream.

TBF, the question was in reference to the 8086K and i7/i5s but earlier questions were about high core count processors, this answer can be taken either way

How many extra Mhz would Intel be getting from soldering instead of the paste they currently use?

Thanks. It would be nice not to have to buy a new motherboard for once, seeing as my fairly high-end Z370 is less than a year old. I sure hope that becomes the official position.
