I'm totally pulling this out of my ass, but I've always gotten the impression like most new yorkers take mass transportation already.

when I was working in NYC, I wouldn't drive my car into work if you paid me unless I was working during off-rush hour times, and we had a parking lot.

the change will probably mostly affect truck drivers (who will probably work out deals similar to the ones they have for parking tickets, where they just pay in bulk), tourists, and people who commute in from the NJ/Conn.

Apparently you don't know enough.

I used to drive a Limo in New York City.

Naturally.

When was this, 1940 when you fought the Germans also, making you an expert in both NYC limo driving *and* war?
It was when I was in college and drove the Limo on the weekends in the city.

I had a Gray 1984 Lincoln stretch limo.

The guy that owned the Limo outfit also had a Budget Truck rental franchise.

So of course you know about freight.

So, if this was in 1984, I think a 23 year spread is quite a difference. Do you live here now?

Of course.

I did some loading for Consolidated Freight.

Is New York City still a city??? 😕

Maybe they just want to get people to move into the city??

There are lots of places where there are toll roads around Chicago??

Well I just meant in addressing safety. You say you're making New York City safer with this traffic system, but you still allow people to own guns? Take 'em all up.

It might have been in between him moving from New Orleans to California to Oklahoma, then losing his business and boat.

The stories Dave spins are just that, stories within his own imagination.

The federal decision does not guarantee funding, and it is still unclear whether the deal struck weeks ago by New York state leaders will hold.Under that agreement, a commission will be formed to examine the overall concept of reducing traffic. After hearings and reviews, the group is to make a recommendation by the end of January.

Once again Dave totally fabricates his thread titles way outside the scope of reality.

I know....shit....

1. There's not a TON of poor people in Manhatten as is.
2. Tolls are deductible on taxes
3. You don't know how much tolls would be.
4. I sit on girls faces
5. It isn't even finalized yet.

How much of a cut are you going to get from the tolls?

Jesus....you really do have issues. Can you not think of anything more intelligent to say everytime someone disagrees with you, or do you REALLY believe anyone who disagrees is getting a cut of said money.

Either way, you are retarded.

NYC has first hand experience with being invaded by King George... no way. 😛

Dave is kool, he keeps this messageboard going, starts stuff, keeps it going and is entertaining.

I do see his point thu, the average joe just getting buy who has a car and needs it will be hurt by this more than the rich

Get your timeline straight.

That was when I lived on Long Island before I moved to South Florida in 1988.

I saw an interesting statistic a few months ago. I forget the actual figures, but it was something like this...

80% of all financial, legal, and other "professional" sector people take mass transit into work. 20% drive.

80% of services, construction, and other "non-professional" sector people drive into work. 20% take mass transit.

I personally know nobody that drives into work where I work and I know ~200 people here pretty well.

Yet, somehow, when I try to travel x-town, or anywhere else by cab, I get stuck in traffic, doesn't matter what time it is.

I am for this 100%. I'd also be for an anti-dog law here. I *hate* how this city continually smells like dog piss/sh!t. Also, a $1,000 fine for any moron who pees on the sidewalk while drunk.

For what particular city? New York? LA? San Fran? Surely these aren't country-wide stats, because public transit is sorely lacking in most of this country.

NYC.

It seems bad at first until a person realizes there are tolls throughout the entire country. If you don't use a road, you don't pay; use it, you do pay. It's better than taxing for road use. However, in this case since the tolls are on some roads that are the ONLY way to access somewhere by car, I agree they're crap.

Is there anything in which Dave is not an expert? Civil engineer, seismologist, climatologist, meterologist, foreign relations, financial guru. He's even running for president. The man knows everything. Where does he find the time to post his bastshit crazy tin foil conspiracy rants in this forum? I'm not sure where he found time to drive limos while becoming an expert in every scientific area known to man.

Its nice to see that some people love spam personal attacks over and over and over and over.

I live in NYC and I support this tax. Its a tax on the rich if you think about it. Only the rich will pay the taxes to drive into Manhattan, which will go towards keeping our subway systems cheap. Most people will take the cheap subway systems to work. Less drivers in Manhattan means a safter and cleaner living space.

Not to mention, you can still drive into and out of Manhattan before 6am, and after 6pm. Its still a jungle out there at 2-3AM in the morning on thursday and friday nights.

Speaking of stupid people; those simple dismissing this as such based on the OP an thread title are the true dumbasses here. If you would look at the DOT monetary award it was for 5 cities and not just NYC. But it's good to see the self centered head-up-rectum position those in the city exhibit as if all laws and regulations had to be tailored for them.

Due to my job and that of my father I have been in just about every state of the union and have lived in a good portion of them. There is one thing that sucks ass more than the nations road network and that would be the public transportation system. It's good that you think your PTS is sufficient, I can guarantee the vast majority of the rest aren't. And if yours was so good, why is so much money still being spent on expanding it and why is traffic a problem. Not to forget that there are a lot of businesses with a HQ or large presence in NYC; just how do you think they will pay for these fees.

Those touting the London plan may be forgetting some of the details, such as while traffic movement did drop when implemented current usage numbers are rising. Since the government like to take in money, as if these fees where to actually serve any other purpose, they are also now looking to raise the fee rates as well as expanding the coverage zone.

This attempt is just another asinine attempt to back fit an ill-conceived solution into an existing structure rather than addressing where the problems start. What are all the gas, registration, current tolls, vehicle inspection, and related auto fees for if not for road construction and maintenance. Aren't we already paying for having our wheels touch the pavement; will this mean that we are starting to inlay precious metals with the asphalt?

Here's a clue for the idiots that think this is a good idea, lets eliminate all the pet spending crap and see where the money actual goes. How many trillions of dollars does the USG take in yearly? With that type of accounting and management of monetary streams they make Enron look like a well run corporation. At the rate those in charge are attempting to drive us into the crapper you'd hope the public would take notice.

Instead the majority of their actions go unnoticed in the Nazi'esque way of minimizing the population segment by segment. Here's a clue to the sheeple of this country, the first words of your birth rite start as We the People. Feel free to be informed and not a fucking doormat. Living to cater to PC and looking to see how many mouths you can stick a nipple into isn't what propelled the great white fleet around the world. In a little over 60 years after the consolidation of this country it became the most feared and respected of the land following the pursuit of the more perfect union. Now its a joke line where we can't strong-arm a nation of thousands into supporting a military expedition. Stop using national guard and reservist troops to pad the numbers and increase the actual number of troops if you want to use the big stick. For those looking to take office at least pretend to operate under the cognizance of those documents you swore to preside under; and those voting should know something other than how to form a straight line on a page. Perhaps it is time for the Jeffersonian words to come true and we are just waiting for another tea party. I have served for this country, my family members of past have served for this country; one can only hope that at some point the minds of the masses remember for the country.

*snip*

The thread title is factually incorrect and the op contains Dave's famously hyperbolic comments which are not supported by the story he posted whatsoever. His usual routine of selectively editing parts of the story and pasting it into the op was done as well.

The Feds have made the money available but that doesn't mean it will be awarded, especially if the city can't get local approval for a plan in the first place. This has already been problematic everywhere such "congestion pricing" has been suggested.

Is this a concern? Yes.
Should we be running around like Chicken Little (the OP)? No.

The same "ban the trolls" idea could be applied to every asshole who personally flames the OP whenever he makes a thread. It's amazing to see people troll and flame and then scream "BAN THE TROLL" as if they're somehow morally superior. Don't dish it out if you can't take it.

On the topic, this tolling idea is absolutely rediculous. Not only is it clearly a class separation, but it will also widen the gap by causing the simple act of getting to work to become even more difficult and expensive.

This system will not alleviate pollution or traffic. I wonder how many people will actually use MORE gas by having to drive AROUND the effected area?

Why don't these idiots who run our cities do something useful by furthering our public transportation system, or adding sheltered year round inner-city bike routes. People would LIKE to use those, and that would also cut down on traffic and pollution.
