7V Fan Volt Modding - help

I want to voltmod my enermax 120mm fans from 12v to 7v. I read some articles on it and they explained where to put the wires, and I understand that. I just can't figure out how to get those wires out of the molex pin thing. Is there a way to do it besides buying a pin extractor?

Also I heard that if you connect this set of molexes to say a CDRom drive you may damage it because it's not providing the correct voltage.

You need something small and sturdy like the smallest flathead screwdriver in one of those jeweler's kits. There are two barbs on each pin, and you can locate them by closing one eye and looking on the exterior of the pins, slipping in your tool and pressing inwards. You can see light from interior of the female barrels to know when you've pushed the barbs in far enough. Then gently pull them out. Sometimes they may need a bit of rocking, but never pull too hard because the barbs can be broken off. As you gain experience it becomes second nature, I really never had the need for the pin extractor tool 🙂 Good luck!

edit: regarding the drives, yes this is true. Do not plug the 7-volt line into anything except for the fan(s) you're targeting to 7-volt 🙂

edit2: also when re-inserting them, bend the barbs back out to about 25%, not too far, just needs to hold 'em firmly.
