KristopherKubicki, Dell SB is running great deals on the px191 (probably others as well) right now. Picked up mine for $618 shipped.

Wew. THought for a moment I had made the wrong choice when I got mine for $615 including shipping and tax.

Dell SB $807 - %15 - %15

Now I am thinking of canceling the order because I can get - %15 - %15 -%5........

Any chance it has shipped already.....

My understanding from the comments above is that the Samsung 192T == Planar PX191

Main feature is 700:1 constrast ration and a brightness of 300 cd/s (vs 500 and 250 for the 191)

Very nice, thats an excellent price! Hell, cheaper than the 191T and the Dell 1900FP.

I think rumour has it that the 1901FP is going to be the Samsung 192T (which is identical to the Planar PX191).

I'm considering between Planar PX191 and Samsung191T.
Anybody can compare these two?
Planar has a little better spec (contrast and brightness).
But does it make noticable difference?
Personally, I like the design of 191T better, and its reputation....

Kris you list the specs of the 192T as different from what is being stated for the PX191 500 vs 700 contrast and 250 vs 300 brightness.

Are they really the same panel or is planar just messing around with the numbers?

Planar is just messing the numbers. Let me put it this way:

Samsung told me the 191T and the 192T are the same substrate. The PX191 are identical to Dell 1900FPs, which are rebranded Samsung 191Ts (all three use the unusual 1.5A, 14VDC power adaptors). Since neither anyone from Planar or samsung denied that the two monitors are different substrates, i am going to assume they are the same monitor.

Hope that helps

Is that good or bad? If i remember correctly the 191T wasn't that impressive in the reviews.

when will there be a 16ms 19 inch lcd? I think 25 is pretty good, but since I'm not in a hurry to buy, I think I'll wait till a 16ms 19 or 20 incher comes out. I'm not too thrilled about 1600X1200 native resolution either, with that, I'll always need a state of the art computer to play the latest games at the desired res. I'd much prefer 1280X960.

I can see them messing with the contrast numbers but aren't the brightness measurements fairly objective?

Even if the substrates are the same could Planar use a different brighter backlight.

Well I have a 1900FP at work, I'll put these two side by side and judge for myself.

Doh. Can't do DVI at work though so it will be an anolog comparison........

Trickster2:

No brightness measurements are not subjective. We have a Colorvision spyder which calculates the luminance for us.

Technically they could - However, Planar doesnt manufacturer things like backlights. When you buy OEM stuff, it comes as the whole backpanel. Planar might put different circuitry on the back - but essentially they just test it differently and acheive their "marketing" specifications. Its no new practice in the LCD industry.

So just to make sure that I understand here, the impression is that the fairly old 191T and 1900FP's which got luke warm reviews are the exact same monitor as the brand new PX191 which everyone is raving about? Is that correct?

Snatch-

I am not sure where you read that the 191T and the 1900FP got lukewarm reviews. But correct, to my knowledge the PX191 is identical to those two. Dont forget that the new 192T which I just wrote a review on is also the same substrate. The difference is that 191T and 1900FP were designed for multi display purposes. The 192T and the PX191 are designed for single monitor usage - and have a year of signal processing upgrades on them.

Oh, ok. So then there probably are some tangible improvements in technology between them. Maybe nothing to jump on just yet though. Thanks.

I still need to get them side by side and it's totaly subjective but for some reason my PX191 definitely looks better (to me) than the Dell 1900FP I use at the office all day.

Maybe it's the flouresent lights.......

Not that the Dell is a bad display and it's really splitting hairs. I think both look great.

Thin bezels rock.......

Especialy at home where I am always switching between my computer and the TV.

Sorta wish I ordered two PX191s..... Is there a multi display mount for the planar's like NEC makes for their Thin Bezel LCDs?

How annoying would it be to blow a grand on a 192T and realise youve just bought a redesigned 191T after comparing the picture quality. There has to be something substantially different about them for the price comparison, if not whats going on?

And the PX191 was 615.........

DANG I am loving this monitor. The more I use it the more I love it. I did not think going from a 19" CRT to a 19" LCD would be such a big difference but it is.

Well, you can get the PX191, 1900FP and 191T for 615 after discounts. Think of it this way, the 191T debuted at like 1100 while the second generation debuted at 860. At least its progress.

The only progress im looking forward too is performance and quality rather then price. Considering the poor performance on the grey scale of the current "High" end LCD's....doom 3 which is a very dark game will run like sh1t on the 192T. Just great....back to square 1

Hmm,

I wouldnt be so quick to say that. Like I said, even though the substrate is essentially the same, Samsung did improve on the signal processing. Its not like the unit is worse than the one before.

Can you tell me which panel performs better in darker area of games? The 192T substrate, or the Hitachi cml174 Substrate? In your opinion...
