Hi,

I have a 7970 crossfire setup. The rest of my computer is listed below: I7 4770k factory speed, gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H motherboard, 16gb ram, 650w 80+ gold psu, windows 7 x64. When i try running BF3 with the 13.8 beta driver, I get black thick bands flashing horizontally across my screen, sometimes immediately and sometimes after 5-10 minutes. My game would then crash and I would then get static artifacts of squares with little squares in them with the error titled: Directx Function Get Device Removed Reason. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you,
Wayne

1.Ensure that both the cards are properly seated and they are not overheating.
2.Does this happen in any other game? you can download Heaven 4.0 and give it a try.

It sounds like your graphics card, and I might even be so bold as to say the vram is unstable.

I'd suggest downclocking/overvolting the ram first to see if that clears it up, if not return it to stock and try doing the same with the core.

It could be something else, I dunno I haven't gotten a handle on my cards but for me almost every a 4x4 square appears in one spot and stays there - that for me is always unstable vram.

Normally artifacts are core, perhaps you have a bit of both, perhaps it's just the vram, perhaps it's neither... However it's pretty easy to check these so that is where I'd start.

Try testing one card at a time maybe. If you get artifacts on a single card, my guess would be as Balla suggested, that card is bad.

This is the OP. Thank you everyone for your valuable ideas and support. This problem has been solved by turning off Skype, after attempting every possible measure. Hope others can see this and avoid the same annoying problem.

Skype! OK sounds like that is a driver but then. No windows app should be interfering with directs games like that. Raise a bug report with amd.

I mostly play BF3 ATM with friends and Trifire 7950s and Skype is always in use with no issues on 13.8 beta driver.
