$796 LG 50" Plasma 1080p shipped

I purchased a 42" Panasonic plasma from them last year with free shipping. A couple of old dudes delivered it in a min-van. They told me they picked it up in Pittsburgh, ~ 100 miles from me, at the freight company hub. They unboxed it, checked it out, set it up on my stand, and plugged it in. Kind of a strange delivery method, but hey whatever works. They had 5 more TVs in the van to deliver.

What is the actual model number? I googled the model number provided by Sixth Avenue and found nothing.

It has 2 HMDI inputs
 
Not trying to thread crap here but I didn't end up jumping on this deal because I found a better one out there.

Fatwallet has a deal on a 50" Panasonic plasma tv with 1080p for $650. Shipping is free but I did get charged tax bringing the total to $702.81 as opposed to the $860 this one would have cost me.

It's a bit of a cheat to get the deal though. You have to sign up for an EPP or Employee Price Program with the Sate University of New York. Technically I'm not an employee so the ethical merits are dubious, but hey, anything for a deal right? If you're company already has an EPP setup then you can just use that.

Without the EPP I think the price comes out to $750 plus tax. It's in the expired deals forum but apparently it still works. I don't think I'm allowed to link to it but pm me and I'll send you the link if you want it. Or just jump on FW and search '50" Class Viera U2', it should come up.
 
AFAIK the mods do not allow scamming a deal to take advantage of it.

I am sure the SUNY EPP program is going to get tighter wraps after this.

If you have an AMEX card member, they are constantly selling that TV for around $450 through their Daily Wish program.

It's all price games with these vendors. They'll give some people one price and others a different price. They force you to play the game to get the best price. They used to play these games with the rebates too. They'd deny you your rebate with no valid reason. A lot of people would just say oh well I guess I wasn't eligible and just write it off and the company keeps your money. The rest of us that go after them via phone, fax or email they would eventually send the rebate check. If they can save themselves 50% of the rebates by issuing an ineligible email to everyone, why wouldn't they?

Same kinda crap here. They're trying to unload these plasma tv's because they're yesterdays tech. They're gonna try to get as much as they can for them. To do that they'll offer select small groups of people a lower price anticipating to sell X amount and then charge everyone else more to sell the rest. Is it fair that customer A gets one price and customer B gets another? Nope. But they set the prices. If they leave a loop hole where customer B can get the same price as customer A too effin bad for them. Mods may not condone it, that's their prerogative. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen though.
 
Raping an EPP program is a problem outside that.

The way EPP works is they more or less want to guarantee a certain volume and a certain 'word of mouth' return.

A company negotiates these things...for the real deals it's a true negotiation, not just a "hey sign up for this deal here!@!@"

We also have negotiated some seriously good deals with Microsoft. I can pick up Office 2010 FULLY LOADED EDITION (like everything) for $9.99. It's only for direct employees and one install only.
 
As far as I'm concerned, all's fair in retail. If they're allowed to rape us on rebates, why shouldn't we exploit their loop holes? You're assuming that Panasonic is somehow above these tactics and that they have some lofty benevolent purpose behind offering EPP's. They don't. They're out to make money just like every other company. That's it. Bottom line is their bottom line.

Who is raping you on rebates? Personally I have never had an issue. *edit* and outside of groceries I do almost all my shopping online...everyday I have a box at the office for me pretty much...many have a rebate.

I understand most don't follow the directions and then post up that they did hoping to get the company to bend over for them.

However, in the best deals, they insure them. It's first come first serve and that's usually listed somewhere in the fineprint.

If you wait to the last minute you may get rejected once the money has all been paid out.

However, fucking someone else because another fucked you is not cool.

I've followed all the steps and still had rebates rejected. Many times. Companies like Lite On, MSI, Lexmark, the list goes on. These companies all outsource this rebate shit and every rejection a rebate company makes stick is money in their pocket. Are you all really this naive? What do you sit there and say "oh well, the money is all gone"? Seriously? I've got a bridge in Brooklyn I'll sell you if that's the case. Google "rebate ripoffs" and have yourself a read. I'm done trying to enlighten you to the dirty dealing of the retail world.

Fucking someone else? By paying the price they've set for a tv? I'd like to see the math on that one. Call Panasonic right now and ask them if they'd rather sell me a tv for $650 or not sell one at all. You know what they'll say? Fuck yes we'll take your money sir. They've got Chinese kids building these things in a factory in Hong Kong for 2 bucks a day. Profit margin is still there my friends. And very much in the black.

I buy a ton of stuff with rebates and never had a problem.

With many rebates the cash 'reward' is sold to a third party at a discount knowing that not everyone sends them in. Some of these companies are more problematic than others.

You seem to think though that a company getting some money from you is better than none. That usually is never the case.

It sort of sets the theme though on how you feel entitled to using whatever exploits you can to get an item at the price YOU want.
