Hello everyone!

I just moved onto a sapphire hd7950, updating my old 4890 but i dont get good performance from the card..

My system is:

psu 550 watt
Asus p7p55d motherboard
intel core i5 750 2.67ghz
4gb ram
winows 7 ultimate 64 bit

Need for speed the run, runs a slightly better but in high settings in "full" on graphics stages i receive a low fps..
Dirt 2 - 3 runs with an average 30-35 fps(worst than 4890..)and a strange low high movement and just cause runs better but in full of graphics stages(According to games' benchmark) i get a minim 20 and maximum 30fps...
Also i get a lowest score form windows rating(6.6 in aero 3d and 6.6 in game 3d graphgics, also worst form 4890...)
I am dissapointed...
when i go to the latest amd drivers, fps are worst!.. i use drivers from cd and i get the performance i wrote above..

I didnt format the pc, and i didnt uninstall - reinstall the games
what is wrong? i need cpu-memory upgrade?
my psu isnt quite enough?
is it a drivers problem?
I spent a lot of money to get this card just to play all games with max settings(only in 1920x1080 not more..)but i am disappointed?

Can anyone help me?
I cant believe that this card's performance is so low in my machine..
:(

NFS The Run is capped at 30 fps, welcome to consolitis.

You're also comparing DX9 performance to DX11, all that said you clearly have a problem and I don't think it has anything to do with your psu, but you could try overclocking your cpu.

Ok if it was 30fps in need for speed the run in high level graphics i would be happy..but is lower..i have similar fps with 4890!
dirt 3 is also dx11 and 30 -35 fps average(and minimum 20) i think it is not a 7950's performance.. and i feel graphics movement stack somehow when run the benchmark and then get back to the menu.there is no difference with low and high settings in fps!! something is wrong and i must find the way to solve it........
4890 performed better in this game. the only game that has better performance is just cause 2 but i get between 20 and 30 fps in full graphics(benchmark).

will format or reinstalling the games solve the problem?

this cant be 7950..
any suggestions??

No, probably not.

Can you do one thing quick, make sure vysnc and/or other frame limiting things are turned off and run your games with MSI Afterburner (monitor) running in the background, snip the gpu usage and post it here if you could please.

The 7950 is supposed to give you slightly above 580 level of performance.

in dirt 3 its supposed to look like this (with a i7 920 @3.8ghz):
dirt3_2560_1600.gif

So you must have a problem somewhere, either CPU wise, or software wise.
Probably cant hurt anything to try and reinstall windows 7 and the games.

Thanks! I will try msi afterburner and snip here info ...

Arkadrel i have seen this before buying this card.. and i dont expect 97 fps.. with 40-50 i am happy.. cant i get 40-50 fps with i5 750 2.67? i need to spend 200 euros more just to play games in 1920x1080??

thank u all anyway.. i will try msi afterburner, wiping old drivers and finally format or reinstall.. what can i say..

Something is wrong.. my opinion is that it is a software problem.

I will try all these ... let's see... IT CANT BE 7950 like this.... :( i just bought it!

and i cant epxlain how in windows rating this card gets 6.6 in aero and 3d(4890 scored 7.7!)..it is a drivers or cpu matter.. i cant play games in 40+ fps with i5-750 2.67 and 7950(1920x1080p only) in max settings?? it is crazy..

That's it.

I also did render test, and saw maximum gpu load , maximum pci speed(2.0)etc. Everything seems ok.
Lonyo as i can see you have the same card with q8300. does your system runs fine ? i dont beleive that with i5 750 it has so low performance..

As for the friend above, i ran msi afterburner. with vsync on, gpu load was 99%. with vsync off, at about 40%...
But it doesnt say anything in driver version.it's blanc.

Mine runs fine and gives WEI of 7.9, using a PCIe 1.1 motherboard at 16x.

Sounds like it must be a driver issue or something not running at the right speed(s).
My driver version is slightly different to yours, 8.921.2.0 where yours is 8.921.5.0 (both "Catalyst 11.12").
http://www2.ati.com/drivers/hotfix/radeon_7900_series/amd_radeon_hd7900_win7_64.exe
These are the drivers I'm using.

BF3 etc with everything up high at 2560x1440 runs fine for me, and is noticeable faster than my HD6850 with lower settings at 1920x1200, even though my CPU is quite a bit worse than yours.

You should be getting 7.5 or better in WEI with that CPU and 7950.
Have you checked your power supply connections to the card?

What kind of PSU is it? Sorry if I missed that.

Check the connections to the card, make sure all those are good.

Remove the drivers, use something like driver sweeper and completely get rid of all of it. Use the drivers on the disk and reinstall. Use Lonyo's if you don't have those.

Try that. If it still is giving you problems if you can reinstall Windows without too many troubles that could help...

When you said you updated the drivers, which drivers did you update to? You cannot use the same drivers you had installed with your 4890. You need to completely wipe those drivers out, and install the ones that came on the CD (or the ones posted above).

no i didnt use the same drivers, i put the drivers of the cd, and the updated on internet.. i used drive sweeper, i put dirvers again and i take the same results...best results come with the older drivers on the cd, with new it is worse. anyway generally i dont have good performance

friend lonyo, has pci. express 1.1, a quite bit worse cpu than me and it goes just fine in high resolutions..

my psu is 550watt..maybe this cause the problem? idont know.
The first time i conected the card to the mainboard, system couldn't start when my second hdd is cabled on.. it cannot recognize it. but i dont know if it is problem from psu, or my hdd crashed somehow, or damaged when i moved it to install it in the box in a different place. so i needed to disconnect it to use my pc.

i really need to solve it...... :(

What model power supply do you have? 550W is enough wattage, but not all power supplies are created equally.

Oh, and out of curiosity, can you run a test with task manager (or similar) to see what your CPU usage is while playing? If your CPU is pegged out, you may just be CPU limited. Although I would think this isnt the case, its worth a check.
