7950 GX2

The 7950 cannot do DX10 which comes with Vista from what I hear. To have HDCP you need a video card that can do it as well as a monitor, OS, drive, and disc. If you get a 7950 and then get Vista when it hits, you can still use it, but won't be able to play DX10 games with it. I think there will be a way to play DX9 games on Vista though. But, who would want to do that?

Grrr... the GeForce 7950 GX2 is not compatible with ASUS A8N-SLI, you have to have the premium or Deluxe to get it to work.

Did you try updating the Mobo bios???? Just checking.

It's not on the compatibility list. The Deluxe and premium versions are.

even if its not on the compatibility list, it might still work.. you should call the manufacturer and ask.

Yep that's true but he might not get any tech support for it if something doesn't work since it's unsupported.

Return it because he tried something that wasn't supported?? WIth a $500+ card??

Don't etailers/small comp stores charge restocking for an opened product that isn't defective??

Let someone else be the guinea pig. Search the net to see if someone else has tried it.

That's true but finding someone that has done quad sli...on an An8-SLI (non-premium or deluxe) may be difficult.

Yeah, I'm too lazy to look. However if I was going to try this I would post on nV news, sli zone or some other thread that is NVIDIA heavy to see if anyone had success with it. I hate returing stuff so I would not try it myself. Heck it was a year before I unlocked and overclocked my 6800.

Yeah the only reason I was advising against it was the guy shouldn't be made to be a guinea pig...unless he has lots of money to burn and is willing to do so.

No, I don't have the cash to absorb a 15% restocking fee just to try a theory out. The board manufacturer for the A8N-SLI is ASUS. I feel fairly confident that they would list it as copatible with the A8N-SLI if it was in fact compatible.

Ok... just spoke to tech support at ASUS and they said that there will be no update forth coming to allow the A8N-SLI to be compatible. This is really annoying because I just bought this motherboard 2 weeks ago. Too long ago to get it restocked. I asked what was stopping a BIOS upgrade from fixing the issue and the tech didn't know and referred me to the Taiwan engineering group. That conversation would be about as fun as a root canal so I'm not going to bother... anyone interested in calling can call 011886228943447 I guess I'll just pick up a couple of 7900 GTs
