I've always wondered why some people make such a huge effort to put other people down just to elevate themselves... sad.

Lets at least get past the paper launch stage and see some real performance. Than we can all compare IQ versus speed in our soon to be favorite games. Right now this is just nv trying to beat ati - if you can't win the current - talk up the future.

However, in NZ right now, a GTX can be had for $100 USD cheaper than XTX for some reason. Even the X1800XTs cost as much as a GTX!! I wish i could enjoy US prices..

The 7950GX2 looks interesting as it is a 2slot SLi monster. no connector needed, and the ability to go quad is impressive. Well according to gstanfor, HDR plus SSAA in D3D games :)

But i get the feeling it will be in high demand, and it will sell like hot cakes, drive the prices to $899~, :D

it'll probably sell like the 512 7800GTX sold, only a little bit better and faster.

wait...so you can run regular sli with having just one 7950GX2 card? or can you only do "quad sli" w/ 2 cards?

First of all, it won't overclock very well because of its tightly packed, double-decker build. The cores are slower because of the heat issues that would arise from being built like that. Now, if in the future a manufacturer such as Danger Den or Swiftech come out with a good cooling solution for this, things could get interesting. Basically, I think the 7 series GPU's are as good as they are going to get. Now it seems like Nvidia is experimenting with more and more multi GPU/Memory products. (Remember, Quad SLI not only gives you 4 GPU's but 2Gb's of visual Memory [...yeah, that's kind of nice].) I for one though don't see any need for this YET. Current games don't need that many GPU's,--except for Oblivion whose IQ looks better on ATI anyway--(not to mention how I think with more and more "cores" coming out Physx Cards are even less of a necessity.)

Ronin, you're just as much as a third party as munky and your opinions aren't any more important than his. I for one have seen what a good SLI rig can do, and I was so glad to go back to a really good single card. (Troubleshooting is easier for one.) Plus, ATI looks SO much better IMHO. I was really surprised. Nvidia made a good implementation, just at the wrong time. I'm personally tired of seeing GPU's on both sides being introduced without any different features. ATI's X1900GT and this Quad SLI are both examples of this. I guess I'm just in a big rush for DX10 and want new stuff to hurry up. Oh well.

I don't think that's true...I don't even think it's 1GB of visual memory but I could be wrong. Isn't this just SLI on one card, in which case it will only show as 512mb of memory since everything has to be duplicated?? If that is the case then even quad SLI will only show 512mb of ram correct?? Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Well, if you cant beat 'em with 1 card, gotta try it with 2 cards... slapped together to have a faint resemblance of 1 card.

And use less power. And be more quiet. And run cooler. And have better performance.

Keep tryin, munky.

Do I care if they slap 10 cards together and call it the gf79999gtxxxx nvownsjoo edition, and it runs at room temps while using 1 watt of power? There'a absolutely nothing that impresses me about multiple video cards, regardless of how they're connected together.

Man, it must suck to be so closed minded. :)

Not as much as it must suck to buy into the hype "we'll sell you 2 cards for 100% more money, so you could get somewhere between 0-80% more performance, and you'll gladly ask for more."

Actually the performance increase in SLI is more like 50 percent if I recall correctly :p

Thanks for your worthless contribution. :)

The GX2's do have 1GB of memory, and are used as such, from everything that I've read. Take it with a grain of salt, as I haven't 100% confirmed that yet.

K, sorry about the upper post claim of 2 Gb's of visual memory. I thought that the memories do combine, but it looks like they don't. Ronin, even if the KB article only applies to SLI, to get what was thought a 2Gb amount you would have to have SLI anyway. Since SLI doesn't "combine" the memory, I was wrong.

So does this mean that the 7950 is only going to have 256Mb's on each pcb? I mean, that would be at least 1 Gb all the way around. Heck, if they were 128 on each pcb, that would be a total of 512 in Quad, which wouldn't be cool since two cards (and lately one cards) already give you that much. I know now they aren't getting combined, but I would think that it would at least be 256 on every pcb.

Um I am not going to re-read some of this munky non-sense to see if its already been posted. But the Life span of the 7950GX2 is the same as the 7900GX2. None will be seen in retail, and will be soley provided to system builders. So unless someone buys a XPS soley to resell this the Price won't flux. We start seeing these on ebay well after their performance lead is lost.

If that is the case, why are Leadtek and MSI branding them for retail?

It's single card only in the sense that it uses one PCIe slot. It's still two physical PCBs and two physical chips. It's using SLI ;)

I wouldn't expect to see G80 until this fall, and I doubt a dual card version will be released with it (although that would be nice).

Um....okay. I think it will be pretty "noyce" but not for this generation. Come on, DX9 is only going to live until this fall or so, why spend that much on something that has the same IQ as any Geforce 7 card. Most games can be played just fine with 78/79 SLI or well overclocked singles. Plus, Quad SLI has A LOT of bugs that Nvidia needs to work out before it really can become effective. I'm not saying its worthless. Certainly have to start somewhere and right now Nvidia is the ONLY company offering to render 4 GPU's in a single system.

Hail to the King? Why post flame bait dude? You and most know that Nvidia isn't the King to everybody just like ATI isn't the King to everybody. I've personally never seen such a flamming sig before either, but hey, its your sig. Just do us all a favor and try to stick with the facts before stating any company to be a King. I wouldn't want a monarchy in the video card industry, I'd get tired of only ATI or Nvidia.

Truly though, I only see driver improvements and hardware construction as the only thing that would need to be developed as far as dual GPU/single slot video cards are concerned. I think it would be better to have a single pcb rather than a double-decker video card, but I bet that is pretty hard to pull off. Oh well, just have to wait and see.

Hm I dont see what the problem is, this card is going to slice and dice anything ATI has.
If you dont recognize that fact now.. you will be. All I'm saying is there is going to finally be a clear performance leader since the XTX/GTX are so close overall.
I say its the king, you can call it whatever you want, but you'll be seeing this fact laid out soon for all to see.

i doubt directx9 will live only until this fall. 100% of the population still has directx9 or lower cards. im sure at least half of them wont jump to directx10 unless they absolutely have to. i wont if i get the 7950GX2.

I'd love to see the price tag on it, have you looked at the price tag on the 7900GX2? Talk about diminishing returns.
