I have a GF 7950 GX2. I'm running Vista 64.

I'm seem to be stuck in multi display mode and eveytime I try and switch to multi gpu mode my computer blanks and reboots and won't load into windows untill I select last good windows config in the boot menu.

I'm using the 7.15.11.6925 drivers and when I try and update them I have the same problem untill I do a roll back.

Both gpus show up in my Device Manager as good.

I'm hoping somebody can help me more in the way of pin pointing my problem. Is this a graphics card problem, PS, Mobo, or a software problem. I don't have any hardware to switch out so if somebody has some previous exp with this problem it would help.

All of my drivers are up to date and I flashed my Biostar P35D2-A7 mobo today with the latest bios.

Thanks in Advance

The 169.25 drivers are what I was using for my 7950 when I was playing TF2 with that PC, so we know they work with that card with no issues. What Nv update drivers are you trying to go to ?? 177 or 175 (WHQL) driver series ?
Try uninstalling the monitor and rebooting, as it would seem maybe a custom monitor profile is causing it to multi display instead of single. You may want to uninstall both the monitor and the video card, deleting the Nvidia video driver folder with Drivercleaner and updating to either your saved 169.xx driver or the newest driver.

I was trying to update to 175.

I tried just deleting the monitor and rebooting then I changed to multi gpu mode in the nvidia control panel. The monitor still blanked and the computer rebooted BUT it was able to load windows. I checked but its still in multi display mode.

I'll uninstall the card and run driver cleaner this time.

Ok uninstalling and using driver cleaner didn't work.

175 won't work at all but I did get 169 back on but I'm still stuck in multi display mode

X, you really have a weird one there. I don't know if its just some odd hardware issue you have, but it really is a troublesome one with very little else to suggest.

Yes I do.

I am pretty sure its a hardware problem now.

I've been wanting to get XP 86 on another HD and dual boot it with vista 64 so I went ahead and got that going and went straight to working on loading the vid drivers after I got XP SP 3 on. No nvidia driver will work. I started at 175 and worked my way back to 94.24. The driver off the windows update site will work but its stuck in multi display mode. :/

I don't think its a PS problem because it worked before and I've had no other problems with the PS so I got it down to the graphics card or the mobo.

Is there a decent vid card upgrade for me for under a hundred dollars for me yet?

Oh when I was going through the Vid drivers I made sure to uninstall the nivida driver in the Control Panel then go into safe mode and run driver cleaner before moving on to the next one.

Oh thanks for you help WT. I'ts not fixed but I have a better idea now whats up.

Use the nvidia site and not windows?

Also, my 7900GT won't work with any of the newer drivers either (nvidia knows this; I told them). The last stable driver that worked for me were the 174.74 (or whatver) beta drivers. Only the 169.25 WHQL's worked before that.

Another thing which OS are your trying to use now, you say XP in that post; but your first post is vista...

Also..

I'm using the 7.15.11.6925 drivers

Did you read the wrong driver or something? Cause that sounds more like a chipset driver and not a graphics driver :\
