link26 im as suprised as you are :Q
i was only hoping for the same temp from a quieter fan - but the alpha does work very very well. prolly cause its huge and very very heavy. i was previously using a thermaltake P4V S478 30cfm 37dba - also a very good cooler.

i dont know what the OEM is rated @.

BTW: i have the fan direction blowing down onto the cooler.

Thugsrook What brand of PSU did you get?

Two things I notice about my system that are limiting my system to go upto 160FSB+
I did the wire trick and everything is rock solid @ 150FSB, even setting vcore to 1.700v
First it is my memory, it would lock up and blue screen me @ 160MHz. I know it is my memory because when I used my friend's Samsung PC2700 it boot up fine with no lock ups...it even boot up at 166 @ 2-2-2-5 setting. I tried changing the memory setting to 2.5-3-3-6 ro 7, still no good...it's a little more stable...but still blue screened...I tested the Samsung PC2700 on a P4S333 (flashed w/ P4S533 BIOS) where FSB @ 100 w/ memory ratio 3:6 which = 200MHz = DDR400, but only at conservative memory setting 2.5-4-4-7, having really mess around with it.
Second, I notice my 12v line would drop to ~11.5v if I put the vcore @ 1.850 (max setting w/ wire trick) when under load.

So I am planning on getting new memory and new PSU. I just want to know what PSU is the best. I currently have a 420W PSU.

SupermanCK im glad you are figuring it all out :)

im using the Enermax 550W.
a 431W Enermax would be good to 2656mhz 166fsb, but not higher.

there is a TON of Kingmax PC2700 for sale in the FS/FT forum.
Kingmax aint the best out there, but it will run upto 400DDR.
...and by the way it looks in there, you should be able to pick it up extreamly cheap ;)

youre doing good work there - keep it up :D

Impressive. Most impressive ;)

Texmaster wow those GF4s are awesome :D

UPDATE
everything is 100% stable @ 2800mhz 175fsb 350DDR cas2/2/2
not 1 crash, hang, bsod, or slow down - awesome :D

vcore is set @ 1.775v and gives 1.820v, vmem is still 2.5v.
im using the 1.7v wire mod and NOT using the overvolt jumper.
turbo1 mode.

Anyone have luck on MSI 645E MAX2-LRU + 1.8AGHz = 2.4GHz with default fan and voltage?

SupermanCK my guess is....

Normal = Normal PCI and AGP speeds
Turbo1 = 35PCI 70AGP lock
Turbo2 = 40PCI 80AGP lock

im gonna run more tests and keep you updated on what i learn. LMK if you find any info in other forums.

Thugsrook, you should get a rdram based mobo and some PC1066 ram and unleash that beast of the cpu!
People have got the abit Th7-2 to about 180 fsb so the chipset is not a problem overclocking. You have to lower the ram multiplier to 3 so you will be ruuning at (175*3=525 )which is well within the PC1066 capability(533). + that board had pci/AGP lock as well as the fsb/pci ratios of 5:1, 6:1 wtc.

Yes. you can stop overclocking now, thugsrook. We'll check back with you in one year. You are the Anandtech guinea pig. ;) We are all too chicken to push the cpu up that high....

Guys... i'm getting a mobo warning with vcore over 1.7v...
is this the limitation on the mobo+cpu that requires
the wire mod??

John thx :)

JTKGY thats a moboard thing.
in bios set "HALT ON = NO ERRORS".
if that dont work - "IGNORE" vcore voltage in bios.
the 1.7v wire mod would stop that too.

HTH :)
