Oh, do you not need to leave the voltage jumper set? Can u just short the pins then move the jumper back? Because after I moved it back I still had the extra settings in the BIOS for the higher voltages...

Also, another question: if I were to install a second power supply, a 250 watt AT and run my fans and maybe my hard drives off it, would that allow me to have much power for the 12v rail, or is the limitation the power supply itself?

Thanks.

Tell me how this sounds...

I had connected the 4pin hard drive molex connection for the motherboard when I got it yesterday to a connector that was switched by my Cold Cathode light and I was able to get 2.4Ghz perfectly stable at 1.6 volts (8.5hrs of Prime95 perfection), and it was table for the time I used it at stock voltage as well. Today, since I wanted the mobo off that switch, I moved over to the only other available molex connector that I had, which I'm not sure where that comes off of--it might be split off the baybus but i dont know without tearing everything aparat again--and hooked that up to the mobo. Now, I have to use 1.65 volts on the core to get it stable, where at 1.6v I get a bluescreen on boot as Windows loads. Now, at 1.65 volts in the BIOS MBM5 shows that, under load of Prime95, the core is actually at ~1.55v. What's up here? Is it possible that the molex that I switched to is getting less power than the other one I was using?

Thanks!!

And once again, what about using 2 PSU's? Would this help, or is the PSU itself the limiting factor here?

make that 1.7v... Prime95 just bluiescreened me after about 15 mins at 1.65v... I guess it's the connector! This puts it at 1.65 volts under no load...

Hey guys,

I did the voltage mod since my motherboard will only let me go to 1.65 V . I have my proc running at 2.806 mhz with a FSB of 175 mhz I have the voltage set at 1.75V but its showing up as actually being 1.70. I'm benchmarking and stress testing it right now and it seems to be stable so far... all I can say is I must be dreaming....

3/19/02 1.6A from newegg
512 MB Samsung PC 2700 DDR ram (I got for 130 bux locally 🙂)
460 Watt PS
MSI 845D Ultra ARU
Stock heatsink with stock thermal crap
Tornado 2000 Case (slightly modded)
and a bit of speaker wire 🙂

what are you temperature readings?

my 3/19/02 1.6A hovers around 50C at full load...

i couldnt get 175fsb stable - it needs more voltage, ill try again later.
i might need a better PSU and the 1.7v wire mod so i can get upto 1.85v in bios.

congrats to ya if its stable! 😀
and yea, what are your temps?

well,
my cpu temp is around 86 to 95 degree's F; I have seen it jump over a 100 . I feel that a new HSF is going to be in order for this chip. The stock HSF seems to be pretty well maxed out. So far I haven't encountered any stability issues. If If I try to push to 1.83 ghz the heat is to much and applications such as SOF 2 and PC Mark 2002 will crash. These seem to be heat releated though. I turned my Air on and was then able to play and benchmark find 🙂. I need to get a new HSF before I can push any further..... note I haven't encountered any actual lockups or Blue screens. I feel heat is my strongest enemy right now.
shame though I like the noise level right now... I had dual 7200 RPM Cpu fans on my BP6 before this.... the sound of those harpies still drums through my head........

When I first saw those 86 to 95 degree temps my jaw hit the floor, then I saw the F hehe
Those seem like pretty low temps to me I don't think those temps would hold anything back.

those are damn low temperature readings....

the winbond chip on my mobo must be way off...... 40C idle. 50 load. can't be right.... I'm hoping it's reading 8 C higher than actual...

seaning program crashes to desktop are usually voltage related - either vcore or mem.
also, please speak in degree Celcius in here.
keep us updated on your progress 🙂

Heres some of my results using a MSI 845.
Might do the same with the gigabyte Girxp. Not sure if I wanna go through it all again. Takes hellu long time to do these things. Cudo's to those that do the comparisons on different sites!

Benchmarks

Im now running at 160fsb. I havnt done all the benchmarks yet at that speed.

Notice how the drives benchmarks go down as the fsb goes up? I think its because of the pci being out of spec. Thats using stripped ata133 drives on the promise 133 raid setup on the MB

I hope my corsiar ram will be here shortly. I ordered it monday. PC3000 512m stick to replace the crucial 2100s i have now.

Get the new BIOS update 1003...it's finally out...
After i exchange my TT Volcano 7+ and get meself some AC3...which i should have already...svccompucycle lost my package...or usps lost it...i don't know...long story...still waiting for my replacement...then i will do the wire trick...maybe not...we'll see...then i will try to beat thug....muhahahha...yeah right...can't even boot at 160FSB...need more voltage...probably redo my whole system...maybe i should dual boot it win98 se and win2k...with my brand new wd 120gb SE....hmmmmm...raid....just got my pcmark2002 yesterday...1300 hd score...and hd tach almost 50MB/sec avg...gonna redo everything...

Well,

I've done some more messing around. I think I'm going to sit and be happy with 2.8 ghz 🙂 . I did get the proc the post at 2.92 ghz which freaked me out ! When windows started to load I got a PCI.sys error. I can run at 2.88 ghz but stability isn't too good. My cpu temp is around 35-40 Degrees Cel

It so frustrating to see y'all hitting 170 and i can't get it past 150 with stability
I gotta get my AC3 and Thermaltake Volcano 7+ NOW!!!
I even set the overvolt jumper...and i still can't boot into windows @160FSB...any suggestion?
I think it might be my memory...Mushkin 512 Hi Perf CL2 PC2100...I just bought that less then two months ago too...don't want to spent so much...should've gotten a PC2700...

SupermanCK-

Im running that same stick of ram (level 2 stuff)..Ive run it at 2.5-3-3 upto 440mhz.....what is your speed on it?
Im also having much better luck with the 533 board instead of the 333 baord...couldnt get past 144/145fsb (1.6a)...on the 533 Im at 160fsb w/no problems....... @53c/1.625v

The 1st 1.6a I was using was dated 1-12-02, this one is dated 3-14-02

dbwillis - I actually don't have the Level 2 one...i got the original CL2...and i am running it at 150FSB 2-2-2-5 with sdram idle timer @ infinite...
what is the sdram idle timer anyway? option 0, 16, 32, 64, and infinite...
