Nice find Wreckage. There are always lots of people asking about a direct db comparison between the two. For some reason I thought the X1900XTX would be louder (didn't keep my stock cooler on very long so I don't really remember).

I thought it was a well known fact that the 7900GTX (and their coolers) were quieter then the X1900/X1800 coolers.

At least Nvidia has one thing better ;)

Wait, the X1900XTX is loud

I had both cards in my system as well and that alone was a deal breaker.

Why can't we have best performance and quietness in one package?

Can you still hear the high-pitched whine of the GTX when you have a case around it? If so I would find that much more obnoxious than the vacuum cleaner noise of the XTX.

No, the GTX is pretty quiet. It sounds like a regular 80mm fan at low speeds. It really is not anywhere nearly as harsh as the cooler on the X1900XT.

hmm would be a cool mod if someone took a GTX cooler and modded it to fit on the X1900XTX :-D

ATI card is much much louder. At the end of the video it gets even louder when fan is turned up to 100%. However, since X1900XT is $435, and X1900XTX is still cheaper than 7900GTX while outperforming it in Far Cry, BF2, COD2, FEAR, and Oblivion, getting an ATI card with an aftermarket cooler should not be a problem. It is a problem when a user is "forced" to replace any components and void warranty because a $500 card was not properly designed from factory though.

Apart from their noisy non throttling 7900GT coolers which suck! ;)
