I bought yesterday 2 XFX 7900GTX, the vanilla version. The store I bought had none to sell over the net, but I went there during lunch time and they had 2 on the shelf!!
Last night I tried both quickly, just to test. Using coolbits and drivers 84.20 I could reach:
Card 1 - Core 715, Mem 900
Card 2 - Core 710, Mem 895
They will not run in SLI at those speeds, but they do run Core 700 Mem 875 together. This was first and only try. Perhaps they can go higher.
Are those normal speeds or I was lucky?
I am doing now some benchies (3DMark only) and will try tonight playing some games. Unfortunately I have only the Fear Demo version, so I will have to go for BF2, Quake4 and Farcry. I will try also Guild Wars, to check for shimmering.
I am also not sure if I should keep 2 cards. One should be enough, even at 1920x1200.
I had 2 7800GT in SLI, but started to have some issues recently - sometimes BSOD. I am pretty sure it was caused by the cards in SLI. Don't know if software or hardware related.
From the benchies, it seems the 7900GTX is on a tie with the 7800GT SLI (w/o overclock). But it runs cooler, quieter and there is the 512MB advantage.
BTW, the GTX (even in SLI mode) is a quiet solution. The only thing is that during SLI operation, the DFI chipset fan gets loud.
I will post my findings later in another thread - like a mini-review.
