7900GTX @ 1GHz Core

Did a quick search and found this not posted.

We all know the Radeons went to 1GHz Core on LN2, now we get to see how G71 handles it. I know it's synthetic and there'll probably be a fair few posts about how "synthetic sucks" but here they are none the less.

8786 from a single 7900GTX isn't too shabby, probably wouldn't last long though. I'd love to see SLI scores. Should hit 12-13k in SLI.

Thoughts and opinions?

Amazing. Sampsa did the same thing with an X1800XT but it wasn't benchable at 1GHz. Congrats to Shamino.

I can't wait until the day when GPU's break the 1GHz barrier at stock settings... probably will be another few years and process shrinks before that's possible.

forgive a noobs ignorance but why can't gpu clock scale like cpu ?

on topic: i am thinking the fx-60 was the bottleneck in that. i GHz 7900 gtx is just crazy.
aslo look at the memory speed. 990x2..amazing

ok now that i read the thread it seems the fx-60 is working at 3.5 ghz too. and its not the bottleneck

Yep, let the Gigahertz race begin!

cpus go through a great deal more optimization by hand. gpu designs are largely synthesized...thats what i heard once.
