7900gt vs x1900xt

I ordered a 7900 gt back in may, since then I've sadly been playing the RMA roulette game with EVGA. I have a 583 part coming in, should be here in a couple of days.

I also have a friend willing to sell me a x1900xt for $260.

I don't care about noise really, and I am willing to overclock on the stock coolers. I am looking for a good card to play Quake and Prey right now, and for the next couple years UT2k7 and whatever comes along.

Given an option of keeping the 7900 gt, or selling it new and buying the x1900xt, which would you choose? And what's a fair price for the 7900 gt? I figure I could do $225-230 + shipping.

Right now I'm sort of frustrated with the 7900s to be honest, so I'm leaning away from it.

X1900XT, no question... Aside from all the issues you've had with returns, the XT is just a superior card to the GT, as its closer NV competition is the GTX.

$225-230 sounds like a fair price for a new 7900GT as well.

Thanks for the fast response guys. 7900 GT will be up in FSFT in a few days.

How overclockable is the x1900xt? Doesn't seem like the best card in that department if they could only get 25 more mhz core on the XTX, but I see that JBT got 690 core.

It doesn't do too bad. 😉

Only if you have "H2O Cooling" though 😛

I had to strap a Zalman 7000ALCU CPU cooler on my X1800XT to get any overclocking. But overclocking is never certain, good luck and enjoy your new card!

Mine still did ~710-715MHz on the core and 825MHz on the mem with the stock air cooler, so they can oc well even without aftermarket cooling.

690 is as high as the CCC will let you clock it. I don't use the CCC for Ocing any more but I have never bothered to OC highier. So really highier than 690 should be attanable with ATI Tool or another OCing app.
