Oh really? Let's compare the 7900GT to an X1900XT then. :) Apples to apples since you want it so badly. :)

Comparing the 7900GT to an X1800XT is frigging generous to say the least, don't spoil it now.

No, this is wrong as well, the 7900 GT compares to the X1800 XT, as ATI doesn't have a R580 based competitor in the 300US segement, which should change with the X1900 GT.

The X1900 XT is a long wolf, Nvidia typically doesn't do a GPU with only a limited performance difference anymore from a similar model a la 6800 GT - 6800 Ultra style or X850 XT to X850 XT PE. Like the X1900 XT ot XTX is.

Not to mention the 7900 GT and X1900 XT are not in the same price brackets anyway. Unless you compare some of the most expensive edtions of 7900 GT VS some of the cheapest X1900 XT.

Not to mention the 7800 GTX 256 has long been discontinued and the prices remains high enough where the 7800 GTX 256 is completely outclassed by the 7900 GT anyway.

Wait, wait... So it's ATi's fault that Nvidia overcharge?

7900GTX = the best non-OC 7900, X1900XT-X = the best non-OC X1900. 7900GT = the second best 7900, X1900XT = the second best X1900.

So I don't follow you. :)

Well, I don't know about where you live, but here in England the 7900GTX costs a fair bit more than an X1900XT-X, and an X1900XT costs a fair bit more than a 7900GT but performs much better.

The 7800GTX 256MB is outclassed by the X1800XT 256MB and 512MB, so I fail to see your point. The 7800GTX 512MB was brought out much later on, so by your logic you cannot compare the two.

Obviously you don't get what I am trying to say.

What are you talking about the stock X1800 XT 512 goes for 299US while the 7900 GT goes for 289US so they are within striking range of each other.

There is no point really in compring the X1900 XT to the 7900 GT, obviously the X1900 XT should be faster considering it's over 100US more pricy so it's ~ 33% more pricey. The wya I compare things is by price you do it by models, so were not on the same table anyway.

I am basing my comparison on products of equivalent pricing or extremely close and what you can find there by both parties, not 1st model vs 1st model 2nd model vs 2nd model etc etc. I hope you can understand that.

I don't compare it that way because it would go like this using AMD vs Intel for example.

Athlon FX 60 vs Pentium EE 965 1st vs 1st
Athlon 64x2 4800+ 645US vs Pentium D 960 530US 2nd vs 2nd
Athlon 64x2 4600+ 558US vs Pentium D 950 316US 3rd vs 3rd

You can already start to see a major price disparity forming.

So the way you do has no relevance to me because i am comparing on what avaialble vs what's available at a given price point.

Or do you want me to compare the 7600 GT vs X1600 XT as those are the 2 highest mianstream cores by Nvidia vs ATI. By your logic that is 1st model vs 1st model.

Well I live in Canada and here the X1800 XT is still priced at X1900 XTX levels making the comparison to the 7900 GT worthless. Not only because the X1900 XTX is better in every way, but due to the enormous price disparity.

There is no more reason to use the 7800 GTX 256 for these reasons:

1. The 7900 GT outperforms it, caries a cheaper price tag and is more available
2. The 7800 GTX 256 is not in the same price range as X1800 XT 512 anymore anyway.
3. The topic is about X1800 XT vs 7900 GT not 7800 GTX 256
