7900GT Signature or X1900XT?

A 7900GTX is faster than a X1900XT.

A X1900XT is faster than stock 7900GT.

A 7900GT SS might be equal in performance to X1900XT in various games.

I would get the X1900XT.

edit - i just checked newegg. It seems the 7900GTX are cheaper overall than the X1900XTX. Interesting.

Three, yes, three eVGA 7900GT KO died on me. One per week. All within 3 days of playing BF2 for 2~3 hours everyday and running 3DMark 2006 no more than twice.
They were not volt moded, but just slightly overclocked from already overclocked stock.

Seriously, the 7900GT Signature Series is just bullsh!t at that price when an X1900XT costs the same.

Why? The 7900GT SS performs like a GTX which is faster than a XT. Not too mention way better support and a really nice cooler.

The 7900GT SS performs like a GTX, but with half the memory and not the nice GTX cooler. Yes, the SS cooler is better than the normal GT's which doesn't say a lot.

This is stupid. The thread is titled "7900GT Signature Series or X1900XT"and you've so far brought up a GTX and a 7950? The OP is considering the 7900GT SS or X1900XT. There is no competition here. The 7900GTX is sometimes faster, and the 7950 is always faster for a good reason, the graphics are not as good. If I disable my HQAF, and my AA when running HDR titles, my X1900XTX beats the GTX. I'd much rather give 15 frames per second to make my games as good as they look now then go back to Nvidia's dated features.

OP, the X1900XT is for sure the choice to get. It is faster than the 7900GT SS, provides better quality of graphics, overclocks easily to XTX levels, and great for the money. If you don't care about things like HQAF, HDR + AA, and warmer colors then just a regular 7900GT for $240 on newegg might do you just fine.

Op you have to keep in mind that certain folks here have very biased opinions on the ATI vs Nvidia subject... it should however be pretty easy to tell which is which.

At $370 after rebate the X1900XT is a slam-dunk right now compared to any 7900GT, but
especially compared to the Signature & other high priced models.

I've been looking over some benchmarks, and while it seems that the 7900GT SS is as good as the X1900XT in some cases with raw performance, once you turn up the AA, AF, HDR, etc; the X1900 almost always comes out on top. And, another point that was mentioned before is also pretty valid. The 7900GT is OC'ed pretty much as far as it can go, while the X1900XT is running on stock speeds... Anyone else want to add anything? Maybe suggest a different card? How's the XTX compared to these two, is it worth the premium?

won't u get same results if u buy a cheap 7900 gt(around $250-$270).Fit it with an arctic cooling accelero x1.Then overclock and overvolt like mad until u get 7900 gtx speeds.
And the total will only come to about $300(including the price of the 3rd party cooler)

Holy S*** its that cheap right now? Man I got hosed earlier this year (and the fact that I got the XTX--I think the cores have more head room and are overall better. No evidence of course, just a feeling)

OP, that is a great price for that card. You can overclock it 25 Mhz with the stock cooler on it and have an XTX like nothing.

Honestly, I put AS5 between the HSF and GPU and it is doing great. Oblivion only causes it to go up to about 58C right now. ATI Tools has a artifact scanner than can make it hit 73C though, but that's as hot as it gets. (Note: the fan is on 100% so there is a lot of noise that I have to dampen with sound) Just make sure you spread a thin layer across the GPU rather than do the dot in the middle thing if you get it.

The XTX is worth nothing IMO. I have yet so see an XT that can't be BIOS flashed to an XTX and then overclocked beyond XTX speeds. Most 7900GT can be overclocked very well too, but it's going to take some L33t soldering skillz to get that extra 256MB of video RAM on the 7900GT. Get the X1900XT and you will not be disappointed.

actually its 80mhz . evga and xfx have 520 cores and evga even has a 580 core for 299 after rebates.

actually the the e-vga signature edition cards have 600 for the core.And as per the inquirer,it can easily be overclocked beyond 7900 gtx speeds.
But i got my eyes on the HIS radeon x1900 xt iceq 3.I already got my self a blue cold cathode light in preparation for that sweet cooler.
it'll look awesome through side-panel.

regarding the x1900xt vs. x1900xtx comparison, is it JUST the core and memory clocks that are different? it looks that way to me but i want to make sure i'm not missing anything... been debating between the 2 cards for a while now but i'm starting to lean towards the xt since it's around $80 cheaper and pretty equivalent to the xtx
