7900GT KO (506/760) to a X1950XT any improvement?

I recently got a 22" monitor to replace a 19". So going from 1280x1024 to 1680x1050.

Current vid card is an EVGA 7900GT KO (506 core, 760 memory)

Problem is at the moment don't have any games installed :( I sold them all and was playing some older games until I got something new.

With the Newegg $20 off $100 expiring tonight, I figured I'd put it towards another card, since the 7900GT seemed to reach it's limit at 1280x1024 with everything maxed.

Was this just a lateral move? Or will there be some performance gains to keep me going at 1680x1050?

CPU is an Athlon 64 @ 2.7Ghz and 2GB of ram.

New card was $155 shipped, so shouldn't cost me too much out of pocket after selling the 7900GT, if it proves to be faster. Just curious what I can expect.

Edit: Forgot to mention, I don't care anything about upgrading to Vista, so DX10 was of no use to me.

Yes the card will be an improvment but not by much. From what i can find you should see about 3 to 5fps increase with the x1950xt over the 7900gt.

I'm on a laptop so I can't dig out the link, but the difference can be MUCH bigger depending on how you use the new card. Since it's 512MB it will excell at AA/AF intensive applications. Since you'll e running at 1680*1050 you should see a noticeable improvement in performance at that resolution, especially with AA/AF. Hopefully in a few more days I'll be able to put my money where my mouth is because I'm in an identical situation (7900GT KO -> 1950XT).

3 - 5 fps LMAO, the 7900GT is just a slighly faster 7800GTX 256 which is not even in the same league as the X1950XT. The 7900GT is slower than the X1950PRO which is slower than the 7950GT which is slower than the 7900GTX which is slower than the X1950XT. An upgrade to the X1950XT will give you a considerable boost in performance that will allow you to increase eye candy, also the X1K series has better image quality and HDR with FSAA.
