Does anyone have a clue when the new cards will be released?

Just wondering because I will be getting a 7800GT in a week or two.

If the release date is soon enough, would it be worth waiting? Even for the price drop inevitable for 7800GTs?

Thanks.

The curse of hardware shopping.

Always something tantalising just beyond your fingertips...

Would it be wiser to wait for the new cards, or to get the 7800GT now?

I would never buy a card at release prices, so it would probably mean another few months after at least.

Are they meant to be way faster than the 7800 series?

They should be quite a bit faster if rumor holds true. Personally, I'd buy a decent card now like the 7800GT or X1800XL, and than sell it when prices come down for the newer cards. Neither of the cards I mentioned should depreciate a whole lot in the next couple months since they're not the ultra highend.

yea, i just bought a 7800gt last night.

By the time the 7900 series comes out new stuff will be on the horizon.

Thats seems like how it works

but a 7800GT will lose it's value too. So you won't really save money.

That's one of the two cards I was alluding to. The 7800GT definetely won't save you money but you won't lose as much by purchasing it vs. one of the high-end cards (7800GTX or X1800XT).

The 7900 series will eventually be overtaken as well so if you sit and always wait for the next new card you'll never have one because they are always coming up with new cards on regular basis these days. Buy the 7800 GT or GTX now and when you are ready to upgrade it again the 7900s will be old and something better will be out. Its okay to be a generation behind on whats new in this fast changing technology.
