although their warranty isn't that great, but they do at least have a 3 year warranty

They have been better about support recently, but they still arent great. You have to jump through hoops to actually get someone to give you an RMA #, but they warrenty is long and transferrable.

For my gaming needs, both cards are equal to each other. The very slight edge goes to the X1900 for it's better image quality. I'm not going to quibble over a couple frames here and there that each card performs better in. The other thing is the promise of video encoding acceleration in the AVIVO software that ATI promises. I do a bit of video encoding and it does chew up a few hours that I could be using the computer at times. Though I usually schedule them for when I go to sleep.

For 1920x1200:

1. 2 7900GTs for SLI
2. X1900XT/XTX
3. 7900GTX

Any thoughts?

Pick option number 2. I wouldn't want you to have a faster system than mine...😉

The biggest difference in my mind is the heat and noise, which nvidia has less of.

If I use a watercooling solution for the 1900XT will I have the best of both worlds?

Even the custom overclocked versions are not the fastest overall:

Legitreview
Even with the core speed of our XFX card clocked to 700 MHz the 7900 GTX just doesn?t have enough to pull it off, but is very close.

Extremetech
So does Nvidia have a clear "win" with their new aggressively priced GeForce 7900 and 7600 cards? Not really. Bear in mind that the cards we reviewed were retail units supplied by XFX, and were the highest-overclocked variants they sell (the "XXX" models). These cost a bit more, and offer more performance. We included retail ATI cards for comparison, but they are not overclocked

I still stand by my recommendations:

$500+ X1900XT/7900GTX
$300+ 7900GT/X1800XT
$200+ 7600GT

I'm wondering... whats the warranty on ATI graphics cards...? I went to their site to look but I didn't see anything.

EDIT:crazydingo, you suggest for the 300mark a person should get a 7900GT or X1800XT... I'm trying to decide. Any pros/cons? I looked and I saw people comparing 7900GT and the 1900 but not the 1800:\

7900GT is a great card. If you want a single slot, cool card then there isnt any contest. X1800XT for $30 more has some extra features plus some slightly extra fps.

I don't plan on getting a sli mobo so ya. And also do you know what kind of warranty ATI has? Also even with your reply I don't know which one you suggested me to get. I have a 1500 budget including monitor if you want you can click the link in my sig and look into my list of parts...

$300 - Get a 7900GT or spend $100 more and get the ultimate XTX. (Scratch that X1800XT off) 😀

AArrggg....the pain..make it stop...

Wait...CompUSA does returns right??😀

I don't feel like spending more than 300 on a graphics card since my budget is pretty tight since I want:

3800 X2 -300
7900GT-300+? There are quite a few different models out there... which one do you think would be the most cost effective..?
HDD-100
LCD-300
case-100
PSU-125
ram-200
mobo-125
s&h+tax= about 1500+....

EDIT: So which 7900GT should I get?:\ 😱
