I'm just curious as to what the difference is between the 7900gtx egs and the 7900gt co superclock for real world perfomance. I've studied all the reviews and benchmarks and it seems like the 7900gt co superclock performs almost on par with the 7900gtx egs. For people who already own the cards, any input would be much appreciated. I'd also like to know if the extra 256mb of memory of the 7900gtx egs really helps that much with current games (Oblivion, FEAR, COD2) and future ones, maybe like the upcoming Crysis. Thank you.

The Superclock 7900GT isnt close to the 7900GTX- the best 7900GT (XFX XXX) is clocked @ 560/1650, the 7900GTX @ default is 650/1600 and I believe the 7900GTX XXX is 700/1800. Big difference, but with voltage mods + better cooling you can EASILY get GTX speeds out of the GT and MORE. There's another topic on this forum where someone got a 7900GT to I believe 800/2k something on AIR + 1.7V.

Yeah, a little extra voltage and that GT can easily hit 700+ core.

Performance wise, the stock overclocked GTs are roughly equal to a 512 GTX but maybe 10-15% slower than the 7900GTXs . . . (more in places where the extra framebuffer helps)

The extra memory has little to do with it. The only place 512MB makes a difference is 2048x1536 4xAA/16xAF, and even then the difference is small at best.

What voltage is good for 600+?

Now a dumb question, what's the voltage typically called in BIOS? I haven't tweaked voltage for PCI-E yet.

Thanks for the very informative replies. I've already decided to step up my 7800gt co to the 7900gt. I've been reading up on the very simple volt mod to 1.4 with conductive pen and seeing people reach 610/1790 on air very easily. I got two questions.

1) I'm on queue for 7900gt co superclock. I understand the "co" means copper heatsink, but since I'm going to change the cooler anyway, should I just get the stock 7900gt for $50 less? From my current research, they seem to be exactly the same card.

2) Does anyone know what aftermarket coolers are compatible with the 7900gt?

Thanks again.

Yep, same card. I'm wasting the money to the Superclock just for the hell of it. You can mod an Arctic Cooling NV Silencer rev 3, or wait a couple weeks for the Zalman VF900 CU. I'm going for the Zalman. It's sweet, but expensive. It features a three pin power connection that can plug into a mobo fan header. Control fan speed in BIOS if your motherboard allows. Nice!

I personally spent the extra money in hopes that they used higher qual parts, since they often dispo by lot, wafer or even down to the die.
