what do you guys think performs better 7900 GT KO vs X1900XTX, if price dosent matter (considering they are close in cost?)

and considering the cost difference which is better?

what one would you buy and why?

Thanks in advance
(sorry for all the questions, making it sound like you are taking a test)
(its for a E6600 rig)

X1900XTX is better if the cost doesn't matter.

IMO, I think that the X1900XTX is NOT worth the ~$50 more than an X1900XT. So a 7900GT KO is better.

If I were to OC, then I would pick the 7900GT KO. If not, X1900XTX. But I would probably not go XTX. Instead, I would get an X1900XT.

Either the X1900XT or the XTX will outperform a 7900GT in most benchmarks, so its the better card.. don't take my word for it, have a look at the recent comparision of mid-range GPU's on AT.
A 7900GT overclocked to the max will barely outperform an XT in some benchs & still lose to it it some as well, however this doesn't take into account the fact that most X1900's overclock pretty well which sways the advantage back over to ATI.

Bottom line, I'd suggest you go for an X1900XT.

and except for noise. there are 7900GTs that are much quieter out of the box

What I think is stupid is how the 7800's haven't gone down in price at all compared to the 7900's. A 7900GT costs less than a 7800GT.

Notice how the X1800's can be had for around $200. I remember a couple of months ago they were in the $300's. Now the X1900's are in that range. If Nvidia would slowly lower the prices on their cards they could probably get more sales rather than leaving the second card in the clouds so that others who may want to throw an SLI setup together wouldn't get screwed. /rant

An X1900XTX will give better graphics and playable frames in any current game. At stock it beats a 7900GT KO with the exceptions being..........well...........I'm not sure. Basically, if you were to overclock the card the gap would be much larger than it already is. While the 7900GT KO is a good contender and available for a pretty penny less, you would be getting some good price/performance ratio compared to an XTX. However, if you want an XT, even Anandtech claims that it is the best buy followed by the 7900.

Unless you overclock the 7900GT.

But out of the box, yes!

X1900XT's don't oc too bad themselves ;)

OP- The X1900XTX is easily the faster card but as others have mentioned it's a better bang for your buck to get the X1900XT if you decide to go with the ATI solution. At stock it will perform on par with a heavily oced 7900GT so you'll have to decide if it's worth the extra money or not. I went from two 7800GTs@550/1300 to my current card and I was pleased with the switch if that means anything.

even if you overclock a 7900GT you won't find it practically faster than a 1900XT, in fact it would be more or less equal or slower, will have only 256mb which will bottleneck you in some games today and all games tomorrow, won't allow 16fp AA + HDR, won't look as pretty, won't be as smooth, will make you a bit tense due to extremely high overclocks + need very good after market cooling and after all this you just barely come close to a single 1900XT at stock.
