I saw info on the NV Silencer Rev 3 fitting a 7900 GT but being a too long on the exaust end.

How about this new one: Accelero X1 ?? Anyone got one yet?

No DHES, so length wouldn't be an issue. Trying to confirm it fits the 7900GT

*BUMP*

No one?

If anyone mounts one up to a 7900GT, please post...

Just whip out your trusty dremel and cut the extra length off the NV5 Silencer.

Volia---problem solved.

I'd just use an NV Silencer and have it stick out the back of the case.

The X1 doesn't exhaust the hot air too, plus I think the NV Silencer would cool the card better.

Yep, all data suggests reusing my NV Silencer Rev 3.

As I sit at 291 in the EVGA Step-Up cue, I plan to carefully remove it from my 7800GT, hopefully keeping the memory thermal pads in tact. They were sticky going on, surely will be a pain getting off.

Didn't think I'd use the Step-Up program, but kept everything clean as a virgin just in case...

Me too. Didn't think I'd step up, but considering all I'm paying for is shipping, why not?

I had 2 vf700's on my 7800GT's, so I didn't have to put on any ram pads (just remove those zalman heat sinks from the ram, real easy to get off, suprised they didn't fall off) so then the stock heat sink when on really easy (kept the ram pads on the stock cooler :D, lucky me)

The RAM pads on my stock EVGA 7800GT CO heatsink looked like gauze material soaked with thermal paste. I hope to refashion something similar. I cut little squares of gauze and am going to saturate them with thermal paste and reapply stock cooler. Using only one layer of the gauze, otherwise it would be kinda thick.

Should be okay.

I don't even think I need to get a new heatsink for my XFX 7900 GT Extreme because I got it and it stays at around 33 :)

Yea, the stock heatsink seems to do the job for the 7900GT. Doesn't seem to OC any better with a beefier cooler either. I like the design and quiet fan on the Arctic Coolers though.

My 7900GT has stayed in the low-mid 40s C, so I have no plans on changing the
cooling like I did on my 6600GT (needed a Zalman to stay in the 40s).

If you used the pads that came with the NV5, they come right off. If you used the adhesive ones that are meant for the rear of the 7800GTX, then good luck... I hear those stick like mad once they've been heated up. I imagine there is a way to remove those as well though, but I've never messed with that, so I can't say.

Either way, if you need to but thernal goop on the RAM, just put thermal goop on the RAM, and don't bother with some sort of homemade gauze jury rig. Just use the cheaper white stuff that came with the NV5 instead of Arctic Silver, and don't use too much - a little dab will be enough.
