This is a NEW motherboard with the 785G chipset that supports Socket 939. I simply meant why would you get this board when you can upgrade to a much faster socket AM2 platform for a pittance more.
The reasons have already been explained in this thread.

I think you're missing the point.

I was answering a specific question about why people pay so much for x2 and opteron processors on ebay.

As for why I would buy this board if it is cheap enough- because I already have a processor, memory and everything else I need to build a HTPC or WHS for the cost of the MB. I don't need a much faster AM2 platform.

Well, it's an interesting product, isn't it? I think it'll be fun if you have a Socket 939 CPU lying around.

Damn I knew I shouldn't of sold my Opteron 180 Socket 939 Processor on Ebay :(. However I did get a good price my other Socket 939 stuff and used the money to buy two Athlon II 250 processors and a 4770 video card.

I found high prices for socket 939 stuff on ebay to be a good thing which allowed me get two processors and a video card. ;)

I wish they modified it to support DDR2. All my DDR400 sticks died leaving only 1GB left otherwise I wouldn't mind getting one for my old 939 cpu..

I found it via searches to be avaiable in Japan, china, and Europe, but I have not been able to find it in North America yet. I think it was listed between 55 to 60 quid in the UK, this is with the VAT.

I have two opteron 170s and 6GB of ddr ram just sitting here waiting for a purpose.
