II. Current Graphics Card: Sapphire 6850


III. Display Resolution: 1080p 27"

(too many games, lets just say all the really demanding ones. Bf3, Skyrim...)

Additional Notes
What brand of 7850 is the BEST overclocker in terms of cooling. I don't care what the price is.
I want 7950 performance if possible, clocks like 1200/5600 under 75C. (60%-70% fan)
If my wants are not possible i understand, i just want to get close!
 
If you don't mind my asking, what games are you trying to play that you can't run adequately? I think the consensus is to sit this gen out if you can mainly because of price/performance.

The asus cooler is way oversized for this chip. Bigger = better! 😀

Newegg had the xfx 7950 on sale for $304 a couple of days ago. That was definitely a hot deal.

I want to be able to play battlefield on high/ultra efficiently. 6850 is too weak for me, plus mine can't overclock at all!

I might go with asus if it has the best temps. I with i could see a chart with the comparisons.

I'm super pissed i missed a 7950 sale. I would have bought the instantly 🙁
 
Hey man, check out my Sig, I have the Asus 7850, at stock clocks I can only run bf3 at 45 fps single player 1920x1080 but when OCed using overdrive stock volts to 1050/1450 I can bf3 at 58-63fps single player. haven't changed volts yet

My temps idle are like 20-30s and gaming non oc are 65-70 and OC are 68-75

EDIT: skyrim runs at max at above resolution without OC 60-65fps

That sounds great! do you think my 1090t will be far behind your i5. Im at 4.1 but i know you have a more powerful processor.

BF3's SP isn't nearly as demanding as it's MP.

OP; If you don't mind turning off all AA in BF3 you'll be fine with the 7850 at Ultra. AA really kills performance on that game.

Will a 7870 overclocked be good enough for some AA?
I cant go higher than a 7870 though.
People say it's not worth the 7870 because the 7850 overclocked is
6% slower but 40% cheaper (when overclocked)
 
Guovssohas is right, I turned off AA and ultra performance and max AF in multiplayer got 50fps overclocked to same speeds above in my previous post

It can probably handle some AA, but i honestly don't know as i have no experience with those cards.

I play bf3 with a 6870 and it doesn't like AA to much, really kills performance.

Can't somebody who has either of these cards answer his question?
 
If your main goal is playing BF3 do not go ATI 7850. For whatever reason they just can't put out the same numbers an older, cheaper nVidia card would net you. Don't crossfire either, otherwise you're jumping into a mess of driver issues nobody should ever have to deal with and there's no way you're running ultra on one 1gb of vram anyway.

If you really have no choice but to upgrade then sell off your 6850 and buy yourself a gtx 670. The sale should at least mitigate the over inflated price's and you'll get a whole lot more for your money.
 
An O/C'd 7850 without msaa is fine for BF3. Could run fxaa OK. It's not optimum, but it will run fine. You sure don't have to spend nearly 2x that amount for a 670 to run BF3. Now, if a 670 is in your budget, then by all means go for it. It's an excellent card (The full size PCB ones, preferably.)

Alright thank you guys for all the help! The only reason i was going to go with a 7850 was because i REALLY wanted to get a card by tomorrow. But since the 670 is worth saving for another week i might as well.

Save your cash and get a GTX 670. If all you play is BF3, you will be disappointed by most other cards.

The GTX 570 is also an incredible deal right now: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/518?vs=549

7850 (or better) performance, good overclocker, some are as low as $250. Or you could pick up a used one for a song right now. Everyone is dumping 7850s and 570s.

A standard 7850 can OC to 1050mhz. That will put it at or above a GTX 580 only with more memory with more bandwidth.

Get a good duel fan model with a heavier build from MSI or Asus and you can get 1100mhz while also being cooler & quieter.

It's possible to get over 1100MHz on a reference card at stock volts. Even if that was a rare sample, almost any reference card should OC past 1100MHz with a voltage bump. Add Sapphire and Gigabyte to list of cool & quiet cards. HIS IceQ X is also not bad.

Yeah it's been fun watching how well the 7900 & 7800 cards OC. I say 1050mhz just so I'm not over promising people what their card will be able to do on stock voltage. Especially if they cheap out on the card.
 
I was about the post in the 7850 overclocking thread, and yes right now I have it on 1100Mhz at stock volts.

Haven't OC'ed more yet, will post in the OC thread.
 
7850 will easily outpace a 480 once overclocked, and use way less power and generate much less heat and noise. Better tessellation, more VRAM, No contest.
