It's no where near the high standard nvidia set with the 7800GT/GTX launch. It's a step back backwards. It was a PR launch simply to take over the performance crown at the sacrifice of availability.

The funny thing is that, the cards were all sold even at these prices.

Can i ask you this? tell me what segment fo the market these cards are aiming for? tell me are you going to buy one? Have the people who wanted to buy one have it? YES, or even own 2 running them in SLi.

Who are these people? the extreme hardware enthusiasts which occupy a small (maybe 5%) of the total market. People who were waiting to see what NV had compared to the X1800XT, saw the benchmarks and many potential XT buyers bought the GTX 512mb.

I mean, were you going buy the card? or like me, are you a mid range consumer looking for best deals? I mean to those people in the extreme hardware segment, for one money isnt a problem. Two, it was a hard launch because most of them got the card or even 2 the day it was announced. Unless you want to see the cards become mainstream, i dont see the point arguing the availibility of the card. Its the fastest single board out there.

Who could have suspected in such HUGE demand for the card? did you predict this? i mean, even with its limited quantity, almost ALL were sold out straight away. Human beings can make mistakes. NV made a mistake on predicting the demand for this card. So did many in the forum. MANY people bought this card over MSRP, and what does that tell you about the 7800GTX 512mb reputations over the XT all over the world?

For me the 7800GTX 512mb was available even BEFORE the X1800XT showed up in New Zealand. So thats, pretty great even for a card that has limited availibility.

Offtopic- robert you have an X800XT PE  were you one of the people willing to pay $100+ over MSRP?

Just because you're a cheap man with no money doesn't mean rest of us are. If you want the best sometimes you got to pay for it and that applies in everything in life, exotic cars, etc. Now get off my back sonny. (he says you don't get it but I get it)

Absolutely not, I got the x800xt pe for MSRP. The x800xt pe actually had a higher production volume but it was being snatched up by oem's but that still does not excuse it's lack of availability for the normal shopper. That is not the case with the 7800GTX 512. It's just pitiful supply for whatever reasons.

I don't pay for things over MSRP. If I'm not willing to pay over MSRP for high end cars, I certainly won't make an exception for a video cards.

I was in the market for one of these cards. I had an order placed with www.citrusmicro.com for a MSI 7800GTX 512 but after the initial supply that MSI gave him, they basically told him not to get his hopes up and MSI have no idea when they'd be able to supply him with more. Instead of cancelling my order he was willing to give me a x1800xt 512 for $499 which, to me, is a good enough deal. A 7800GTX 512 is not worth an extra $250 for me. Do I want a 7800GTX 512. You're damn right I do but no way will I pay over MSRP for it.

Another friend who I helped build a PC just a month ago with a Evga 7800GTX KO card wanted to use the step up program to get the 7800GTX 512. Evga basically told me to get in line and it could be a couple of months before they have enough cards. Yeah, that's awesome availability.

Your logic is flawed. There was a small number of these cards available and they all sold. So that means there was a HUGE demand? No. It only takes a small demand to sell a small number of cards.

You're judging my finanical status by my unwillingness to pay over MSRP for a product and then proceeding to compare an assembly line accessory based $650 video card with $150,000+ hand built Ferrari's??? I'm shocked that you're smart enough to put those machines together all by your lil self! No wonder you and rollo get along so well....it's like talking to the same person.

You got it! I paid over MSRP for both of my GTXs but do you see me complain about it?
Either you're serious about purchasing a GTX512 and nothing is gonna stop you or you're here to stir up trouble. I posted some links for those that are interested in getting one and you get on my case. Obviously you're not serious.

Hey, no probs. I don't really need to convince anyone here. That wasn't my intention.
Just posting my opinion. After all, this is a FORUM ;)
Sure, anyone can be biased one-way all they want. It would be hypocricy to claim being fair after that. ;)

fair? . . . not since his 7800gtx arrived ;). . .

. . . he can't even correct his poll after misquoting me badly and having it brought to his attention [3 times]. . . . i think he has "selective ADD" and doesn't read half the replies in this own threads.

Apoppin, I just changed it. Hope it didn't ruin your holidays.

Misquoting you badly? What are you talking about? And thanks for crapping by.

I have seen few people on this forum nastier than you have been lately.
3 WHOLE TIMES eh? Do you think I stay glued to this computer 24/7?
Selective ADD? In what way moron? I read all of the replies, but you know better than I do right? Go jump off a building.
nasty? :p

. . . you're the jackass that decided to ridicule me by posting a LIE about me in your Poll. . . before that you asked me a QUESTION in your last thread that you IGNORED. . . you ignored my TWO requests in YOUR thread to correct it while you answered OTHER posters and it took a PM finally . . . and now you want me to be "nice" to you. :| Jump off your own bridge.

You and I know what "Apoppins fav" meant. You went rampant in several threads posting a link to the "Nvidia Intentionally Limiting 7800GTX512 quantities. So, instead of having a sense of humor about it, you go off the deep end like I murdered your dog or something. I could have easily left it there until you complained to a mod for me to remove it.

By the way, I reserve the right to IGNORE trolls.

And that comment is hugely based on Inq's story, so even from that perspective people are holding Nvidia responsible and rightfully so.

Do you know how many of these cards were sold at those prices?

Edit- I meant huge demand from the high end market which is about 5%? I mean there were people who sold their GTX SLi setups to buy one of these cards.

This was Nvidia's fault, but only because they decided to use the most expensive, quickest and limited ram there is. Nvidia might have not had a choice, Samsung could have denide them access to 1.2ns because ATI already was buying up all they could get for their X1800XT. Still it would have been far wiser for Nvidia to release their 512mb GTX with 1.3 or 1.4ns memory with nominal speeds of 550/1400-1500. This part would still outperform ATI on all fronts, and Nvidia would have far less to worry about in the supply area. It would also make it so Nvidia could release a true Ultra product using 1.1ns running at 600/1800, enough to give it parity over the 512mb GTX and give them alot more time to perfect their jump to .09 dies.

True, but i dont think they want to release any "ultra" products.

No, he's really not. There are
'best bang for the buck people", and there are "the very best bang bar none" people.

I take it you are one of the "best bang for the buck" people and solofly is "the very best bang bar none" people. Neither of you should be ridiculing the other about how "their" money is spent. So why get in each others faces about it?

Do you think that should be an option in the poll? Because I can add it if you think it would apply.

1. nvidia 512MB 7800GTX fastest card to date with no competition
2. nvidia can make more profit by limiting quantities to keep prices high since the demand is there even at the high prices
3. nvidia probably won't release 512MB 7800GTX widely until X1800XT is more widely released i guess

funny thing is in Australia chances are alot higher of getting a 512MB X1800XT than 512MB 7800GTX before Xmas... hence why i bought my 512MB HIS X1800XT (in sig) :)
