Greetings all,

Just got my BFG 512 GTX today and am very surprised with the OC I'm getting (615/1850). I was wondering what others were achieving with theirs. Post what brand you have too.

Thanks

:p

If you mean, nobody will buy one because of the price, they are selling out all over the place.

Other than that, ???

just curious, u ask for "stable" overclock in your msg description. what exactly do u use to determine stability for vid card overclocking? what's the prime95 of vid card utilities these days?

Is that with stock cooling and voltages?

Yes. Still messing with the settings though. Right now I'm testing 630/1840. Got through 3dmark05 with a 10690 on those settings. 3700+ @ 2770.

I just run several programs and games and if it makes it through without any artifacts I call it stable. Not sure if there is *one* program better than the others.

I get 635/1.85 auto detect with coolbits with my eVGA 7800GTX512. I ran that RHDRIBL (sp?) program for about and hour at these clocks to monitor my load temp (which is 76) then played a bit of CS:S surf and finally CoD2 to really stress the card at max settings (I don't believe I've ever felt as fully immersed into a game as of now!). I used 1920x1200 4xAA max in game settings and I didn't have any artifacts or have stability issues with these insane autodetect oc settings, the game also ran silky smooth with these settings! I haven't even tried to see as high and I can get with my OC but I feel I really lucked out with my 7800GTX512 and it's OC'ability. Most of the reports I've seen haven't been able to break 600/1.8 on these cards, even with the special "OC" versions of the cards that BFG and other companies offer. All I will say is that I'm glad I chose eVGA the last few times round and I'm more than glad I stepped up! Oh btw for those that care about such things. I get 10390 in 3dmark05, I feel my CPU is really limiting the score though (didn't luck out with my Venice, the score below is the cap for this cpu :( )

I'd love to tell you about my overclocks. Someday maybe.

The hype....

"we have another NVIDIA hard launch to evaluate."
-- HardOCP

"This week we have another successful hard launch from NVIDIA"
-- Anandtech

The truth...

"We have received your request to Step-Up to the new 512-P2-N545-AX.
However, due to the high demand regarding this product, it may take several weeks for your request to be processed."
-- evga marketing

The "high demand" evga is referring to is that they have only come up with 20 cards for the step-up program so far. Twenty. Not exactly what I'd call a "hard launch". Sounds like more of a "semi".

 I like the double-entendre (but only if it isn't about me, )

Let's not forget the eVGA Step-Up program is a privilege. I'm sure if you wanted to buy one for retail they would certainly come up with one for you.

Actually, the only way your going to be able to get a 7800 512 from evga direct is the step-up program for now. I called evga about buying one from them and they said it would be quite a while until they would be up for sale on their site due to "very limited quanities."

1) The step-up program is an advertised advantage of evga. This is more than simply a privelege. It is a selling feature. If you purchased a card that was advertised to run at a specified speed (like BFG models, or evga's OC models), but the card wouldn't run at those speeds without artifacts, would you simply say that's a "privelege" so the manufacturer shouldn't have to replace the card?

2) You cannot order the card from evga. They have been backordered since launch.
