7800gtx won't play crysis?

I am very confused here...
I finally got my hands on a copy of Crysis, and it's performance is horrible on my 7800gtx, e6600 with 2 gigs of ram and XP.

Even on the lowest settings it won't break the 20fps mark at 1024 resolution.... ???

Any tips?

Oh, and this morning I broke down and ordered a 9600gt which should be here by the end of the week. 🙂

upgrading your gfx card was a good tip. another good tip is get a faster cpu and another one of those graphics cards. another good tip is don't plant your corn too deep.

i am such an idiot, i no longer should be allowed to post on the interweb!
i had set my nvidia software to all kinds of forced super high sttings for running older games like swat4 ...
now everything is good... and omg this is awesome!

oh thats the other tip, use nvidia control panel to set 3D performance to "performance" (?? ahah ??) You could also OC your setup a little with Rivatuner or Ntune.

despite all of my fans and my awesome lian li case, this setup is boiling hot... my vid card is cooking at around 85*c.... so my ocing did not go too well...

Well, for me Crysis always worked like an ass on my 8800 GT. At the last level I had to put everything on low to be able to play at some kind of a frame rate, so I have to imagine how bad has to work on the 7800GTX.

jared, where can i send your money for the bill? haha

this place i'm living now is a fucking dust filled hell apparently, (and as usual i was completely oblivious).

i finally got the 7800gtx out, took a while because my mobo wasn't designed for easy access to the little nubby thing that held it in place. there was a HUGE dust bunny sitting inside the heatsink. so it's finally cleaned as well as the rest of the system.

you, kind sir, have finally gotten my lazy ass to do something i had been thinking about for a very long time. good work!

the BS of it all was that there are dozens of articles quoting one of the designers saying that the game works fine on medium settings on his 7800gtx....

I thought my card was still faster than the new mid level graphics card until i did some reading today and found some people saying that the 9600gt was significantly faster, so i took the plunge.

anyone know if the intel bad-axe mobos support SLI? i might consider it if i don't have to upgrade the mobo. my PSU shouldn't have any issues with it, as far as i know. it was a top PSU about a year and a half and should have more than enough power.

after the de-dusting procedure, i am running 12*c cooler at load, not too much difference at idle though. but damn, that's a huge difference!

i played crysis through on low... on an x2 3800+ and a 7900GS... I think it was 1280x800... since it was the lowest resolution that was 16:10 aspect ratio... If there was a lower res, then I used it... I just remember it was as low as it went..
And it still lagged.

20fps? thats very lucky of you. Crysis runs like ass. play it through, enjoy the cool nanofiber suit, and move on. The game only takes 4 hours to beat anyways.

it's still pretty damn slow on an 8800GT and e8400 unless I lower my resolution below 1680x1050. The game runs really fast if I don't use my whole monitor *roll eyes*

It's all in the tweaking, how you set all the graphics settings. It's probably best to make a custom autoexec.cfg file (some tutorials online)

In general, for the easiest gain in performance without sacrificing much visuals

lower shadows
lower postprocessing
lower particles

right there, that makes a HUGE difference on my system except when it is trying to draw like all of goddamn north korea in one frame

It plays smoothly for me on all high settings. This is also why I'm running two evga 8800gts 512's in sli.😀

It doesn't have a fluent frame rate on highest settings?

i played it for a few hours last night after i slightly oc'ed my 7800gtx and now i can play on med. settings at pretty low resolution... 1024 i think. it runs great sometimes, and other times i struggle to make 20fps. and sometimes there are pauses and other slowdowns. it is a blast though, idk how anyone can knock this game.

Crysis runs terribly on 7-series cards ... a 7900GTX loses badly to a 8600GT.

You got that right. My overcooked 8600gts runs Crysis medium settings 1440x900 around 30fps in game benchmark.

The key for me , turn shaders to low, that was the framerate killer.

Yes, but turning shaders to low you destroy the graphics in Crysis. A Crysis without graphics is just.....well it suc**.
