7800GTX vs 7800GT OC ...

I've been contemplating this for awhile now, as far as I can tell, the GTX only has slightly higher clock speeds and more pixel pipelines. The last I checked, a 7800GTX is around $490 and the GT/GT OC's are around $320. Worth the price jump? I've been building a system and have been putting basically all the highest grade components I can add together... so I don't want to skimp on one of the most important parts... I'm going to be buying 2 of them and running in SLI mode. So yeah, just curious to see what the forum chronies think on the subject

this evga 7800GT runs at 470/1100 (it says 460, but that's for the old driver, the updated one runs at 470) and that is about one frame slower than a stock GTX, but most GTXs are OCd as well.

I would say that if you are running 1680X1050 or higher the GTX shows its value over the GT. Otherwisw don't waste your money. SInce you are going to get SLI GT's then you should have plenty of horsepower to run just about anything you want.

Definetely the SLI'd GT's. If you wait for the right deal you can get them for $580-600 ($500 for the pair if you sell the packaged games) which isn't too much more than a single GTX and they will pummel it in games.

also though, if I buy the cards through compusa and pay the extra 60 bucks per card for the 2 year replacement, you can fry the card on purpose within 2 years and go in and get it replaced for the value you paid for the original cards. Or, I go with the GT's and just buy them without warranty through newegg.

Unless you're being really dumb you won't fry your cards. Every once in a awhile a card will fail but most manufacturers have a pretty decent warranty. If Compusa's warranty covers voltmodding and overclocking than I'd say go for it, but something tells me it doesn't.

Wow. Calm down man. I wasn't making a personal attack at you when I said "Unless you're being really dumb..", I was making a general statement. Besides that, I don't think Compusa intended for people to purposely fry their cards so that they could get a new one. In fact, I just called Comps's TAP (Technology Assurance Program) department and they said under no conditions will they cover any alterations to the product, including overclocking.

FYI- People are more apt to help you if you're nice to them.

GT OC - If they had one when i ordered that's what I'd have.. GTX simply not worth it since GT OC's are right there for 33% less money.
