7800GTX shimmering with landscape textures

I play mostly flight sims and with a couple of them Falcon 4.0:AF, Battle of Britain 2 I get shimmering with landscape textures. This effect is more pronounced with background textures. This effect occurs whether I use Aniostropic Filtering or not. This card is new to me, so I haven't tinkered with it a lot. Please tell me there is a fix for this and I'm not stuck with the dreaded nVidia shimmer.

Thanks for the help.

It is hard to know if you are trolling or asking a legitamate question... To answer your question, if you want to fix the majority of the shimmering, you need to download the newest drivers from nVidia, I believe they are version 78.01. Then you need to set the graphics quality to the "highest" setting in the forceware control panel. After that, most of the shimmering isssues should be gone, if not all of them. It fixed them for me and countless other users here.

Normal thing for Nvidia 6800/7800 cards. Try turning the driver up to 'very high quality' and pray. If it's still there and it still bothers you, time to start checking out some ATI cards.

I'm definately not trolling. Settings are at high quality with the newest drivers. I should mention the 2 sims I am having trouble with are remakes of older games (Falcon 4:Allied Force, Battle of Britain 2). I am not having these issues with newer sims like Lock-On and Pacific Fighters, nor with HL2.

If no one has any other suggestions I will ask again at forums specific to these sims.

Thanks.

NONE, might wanna check elswhere then. GL on this.

Edit ** One more thing, are you sure you are not refering to artifact textures, rather than shimmering? Shimmering, the kind that is referred to is a slight almost like vibration of a texture going back and forth... The texture is still fullly in tact, but wiggles. If you are seeing textures go black in and out and multi colored, then the problem is with the game, and there should be a patch to fix it, unless the game is so old, that no one bothers to patch them.

Archangel,

Why would you assume he's trolling if he has a legitimate concern with his card? You think nVidia is so perfect that if anyone has a problem they're trolling? BTW you recommended the wrong drivers to him so I don't know how you can claim they "fixed" the shimmering for you - seems you're either misinformed or just spouting your usual nvidiot b.s.

To the OP: Switch to the 78.03 drivers since those are the ones that are supposed to address shimmering. Be sure you set your LOD clamp in the drivers and disabe any aniso/trilinear filtering optimizations (set your quality slider to High Quality). If the above fails then there more than likely is not a viable solution apart from switching to an ATi card.

My mistake, it was my impression that the 78.01 fixed it, not the 78.03. Either way, those ones fixed my problem. The 78.03's. Asside from that, I asked if he was trolling because there are already a good amount of threads based on this topic... So, you can pretty much shut it, at this point.

Edit ** forgot to mention your name with all the other a$$hats in another thread... You are probably one of the biggest dicks on this forum I have ever met. Without a doubt, still pissed at me for making a good laugh at you in another OT thread... LOL, it appears you won't lay off, will you?

Want a good laugh? Another post with that kind of hostility may be reason to have you laughing on some other forum.

Alright dude, your gay fantasy's are scaring me now. I think I'm just going to stop posting in this thread before you start PM'ing me asking for a date.

That is one way to get rid of a troll... Face him with his own reality. It turns out, he couldn't take it and left.

Once again you've resorted to rudeness and name calling. Seems that's what your best at.

Again, here you go again, trailing every post of mine... Need to get a life man otherwise, I guess I will return the favor on you... I am not sure how you can still post on these forums "M0ff" I mean... How many times have you stated completely rediculous information? In fact, you have never admitted you were wrong once, despite Keys and countless others refutting everything that comes out of your mouth. Not to mention, you side with Turtle which invalidates your technical credibility here.

Definately shimmering.

Thanks anyway.

Well, you can try the nvidia beta 78.03 drivers. It removes or sometimes only reduces (depends on game) shimmering. You may or may not have luck with your game, but if it's worth a try to you, go for it.

have you tried nvidia's website @ www.nvidia.com ?

If its really beta, they might not have it on their site so google it if that's the case.

Sorry, but the 78.03's do not "fix" the shimmering. They remove a lot of it, most of it in fact. It is still there however. If you dont see it, you simply aren not play the games that have problems, or are just not seeing it.
