what is the max oc you've run/benched at?

whats the "detect optimal frequency" show?

what speed do you typically run your card at?

my evga,
500/1300
515/1330

Thats nice but you best see whats under your core and ram coolers, i would slap some artic silver 5 on them all, solongs design is same as 6800U with no live legs or bridges near to spill silver on BOOM ;), they claim its not to conductive funny as its 99% pure silver lol.

Dont forget little volts chips heatsink, on 6800U they were tiny and to close to live chips so i used ceramic on that part, not sure on layout of 7800GTX.

yeah, i might do that. i was definitely going to do it on first boot when the load temps were mid 80's. now it only touches 80 after about 30 minutes of rthdribl. during 3d05 when clocked to 500 its only hitting ~73, not really scientific but...

i'll wait for a while anyway. i gotta find some more pics with the cooler removed. i wouldn't mind slapping a vf700 on it if it would fit.

Just use Ceramique. Don't gamble with AS5 and fry a $599 card.

DLeRium, read what i said, if its same as 6800 Ultra there aint any bridges around GPU to short or legs on ram, i did state use ceramic on voltage mosfets.

When I installed the NV5 Silencer on my 6800GT, I used AS5 on the core. There's nothing around there, so it won't conduct. I used the silicone paste that was provided with the silencer for the RAM. It does a good enough job because GDDR3 doesn't produce all that much heat anyways. So yeah, AS5 on the core is nearly full-proof, and just use the ceramic paste on the RAM like humey suggested.

Where did i state to put ceramic on the ram ?, i said i used both silver on core and ram and ceramic on voltage mosfets as there close to live legs, the core and ram on the 6800Ultra is nowhere near live parts and completely safe to cover in silver, ive ran it since nov 2004 like this.

Do you understand what im talking about when i say voltage mosfets, that are under the little long alu heatink at rear of card (opposite end from dvi sockets) ?, esp important if you used modded bios with more VCore i run 1.6v instead 1.4v on a 6800U agp.

There still aren't any new cooling available for the GTX huh?

Anyone know if the Zalman unit will fit?

i'm thinking it would but i haven't checked if the bracket will line up or not.

on a side note kman, you notice how messed up the 3d orb is? i don't know why but it can never read my core/ram properly.

Ronin was saying he got 500/1400 just on air w/o anything special.

The 3d orb shows a different clock speed, I don't know why either

The VF-700Cu does fit on the 7800GTX, it's a pity that the BIOS can't be modded anymore to increase voltage, you have to physically mod the card, I don't really feel like doing that, I'm not the best solderer in the world, I've done vdimm mods before but I just won't risk it on a $500 card, but I've only been able to push the card to 498/1358, rock solid there, anymore though and after 1hr of rthdribl it just hangs the card, maybe when the card is reaching the end of the cycle I'll vmod to get that extra bit of performance.......

Are you using the VF-700Cu, if you don't mind me asking. Also, with that cooler, I wouldn't have the option for an SLi setup anymore correct?

First of all the 99% silver isn't conductive, trust me, I don't want to go into the science behind it but there is a lot more that goes into conductivity of electric current than "oh its metal".

But I still would stay away from AS5 for another reason, it has a tendancy to become very "sticky" and glue-like after a while, which would def. pose a problem if/when you try to remove anything.

Agreed, I prefer AS3 for certain applications for this reason. It isn't nearly as sticky and syrupy as AS5, much easier to apply as well.

basically :p

really i just wanted to see how much headroom these gpus havein general. i don;t think anyone actually runs the 24/7 oc'd. well, i know i don't, lol.

@ netzerozeus, so the vf700 definitely fits? did you use the supplied ram sinks or did you get some copper ones? how many sinks does the card take?

just became a bfg 7800gtx oc owner tnite

the last nvidia card i had was a 6800gt, for a short period of time before switching to the x800 xt, then later to pci-e x850 xt pe

since i've been out of the nvidia loop for awhile, what drivers are u guys using? is 77.77 the best at the moment?

also, how are u guys overclocking? coolbits still or is something better out there? i wished nvidia had something like atitool...so easy :p

if you are using coolbits, are u just upping the voltage then looping 3dmark or something to test for artifacts? how are u determining an overclock is "stable"?

thanks!

Mine got up to asround 515/1300 with auto detect, but I noticed some artifacting in 3dMark05. so I turned it back down to stock.
